I think it might mean that taking on more debt and financial obligations at this point makes them susceptible to a hostile takeover and being broken up/asset stripped. Don't see them spending on anything that doesn't turn quickly into revenue or cost savings. As sales are down so far, cost saving will take over from innovation or new products in the short term.

If no one is spending the money, not the best time to try and grow into new markets – as the payback may take years.

However, a very good time to do R&D as a way of growing morale and retaining key staff. I would be expecting to see leaked photo’s and prototypes turn up at shows a lot more than in the past as a result. That will keep us all guessing and its free publicity for HD/MV/Buell.

In the meantime, re-marketing of existing products to gain any revenues with no/low incremental costs.

Not surprising considering the recent HUGE cut in prices: http://www.chandlerharley.com/
Maybe they're pulling the plug on Buell. Put it in perspective.. Buell's been around since 1983. They sold their 100,00th motorcycle a couple of years ago. Ducati and Triumph each sell about 40,000 bikes in a good year and they've got some designs that have a future. I'd pull the plug on Buell, too. Perhaps they've decided MV is their sportbike future. If so, good news for the world.

As much as I like some of their efforts, I agree. The air-cooled twins have never been competitive, and the Rotax is a great motor, but placed in a bike that alienates current owners and fails to attract new ones.
That motor will be much better utilized and marketed in Cagiva-branded bikes.

I see more Buell's on the back roads in the weekend that any other brand here in New Zealand. At least 10 last Sat morning when I "went out to put a bit of charge on the battery ;)". I have no idea why.

The owners when you stop to talk to them love their bikes and come from all walks of life. They also ride them pretty well, and get them low into the corners and fast on the straights.

Buell is something I truely don't understand. I have test ridden two in recent years and turned around after less than 5 miles and took them back. They were (to me) truely awful. But still they sell them here in large numbers. Just checked the "For Sale" web site locally and in the sports class, 435 Honda's and 64 Buells for sale. Half the Honda's (approx) are 400cc or less.

I really think the cafe racer version of the 1125r is awesome.

Instead of looking literally retarded, I think it looks like a real monster.

But would I buy it? If it had a single-sided swinger, star-shaped wheels and a wicked trellis frame, sure.

The most offensive part of the bike are the waste baskets on either side being used as air scoops.

Breathtakingly ugly.

they're for the radiators, I thought. That or it's some kind of thresher machine, which also would be pretty cool. Yeah, maybe it's some ram air thing that sucks in birds and spits out fried pigeon into a little, pink basket on the back.

Those are designed for group rides. They suck up the parts that vibrate off the Buells ahead of you.

LOL

The worst parts are definitely the radiator covers and the exhaust. And the tail, headlight, seat, frame,...
