Hi guys,

Took my f41000 for its first ride this weekend....
Bike usually lives in my kitchen for viewing purposes only !!!

So, New battery fitted,... Tyre pressures done etc then set off for wales from Stockport.
All goes well from start however around an hour in to my journey bike decides to cut out ??????

All power goes from dash,.. After a few minutes the bike gave me power back. This process goes on about 4 / 5 times sometimes having to wait for up to 45 mins for power.

I did notice my battery was leaking slightly (stained swinging arm!) ?

So not sure what's up ? Any one come across this before ?

Bike is fine when running but will just cut out intermittently ?

Please help !

Bike is still in abersoch and I'm now back home without it feeling quite lonely !

Cheers folks

First off...welcome.

Second: Your battery should not be leaking. It is a AGM style sealed unit...unless it's been replaced with something other than stock.

Third: Is the battery installed on its side? It should be. Otherwise you can hook it up with reverse polarity and that caused problems.

Fourth: are all the wires re-installed correctly and TIGHT?

Just a smattering of things to check.

Again, welcome and let us know where you are from, what year F4 you have, and if there are any mods (like alarms...datatools suck) because some mods, like alarms, can wreak havoc with the way a machine runs...especially if the battery voltage is low.

Which brings up a Sixth point: If you battery is a KOYO, get rid of it. Also, make sure the battery is of good charge.

How long as your bike been an ornament? Last time the fluids were changed? What year is your bike?

Welcome, by the way. :)

Matt, welcome.

Assuming it was the old battery that leaked and not your new one...

Time to check connections and get the wiring diagram out and a multimeter and check you have power at ignition switch/fuses...

and at the latch relay etc.

Hi, thanks for replies,
The battery is a new one and not a sealed unit, this I will be changing.
It was fitted correctly with all connections tight.
The bike does have a data tool alarm system... something I will also look in to!
Can you advise me what battery to fit to the bike?
I have a 2006 F4 1000, with 5500 miles.
Been an ornament for 12 months,.....

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here but don't the Datatool alarms have a bad history of causing electrical problems?

Thanks for info, I am aware of battery instalment and have ordered the correct battery.
I will try and disconnect the datatool alarm and fingers crossed that will be it !

Can anyone advise me where to have it serviced in the south Manchester area ?
Cheers
