Thanks Joe. I have rebuilt a number of these.
But very little aluminium in a J3, steel, wood and fabric mostly.
Engine largest lump of aluminium!

Ah, flying along door open and your feet out on the strut!

Well they sure are purty Ed : ) :mouthwate Great that you have worked on these babys. I love em. I've only just been reading on the structure and I see wot you say about the fuselage and many other parts. They use a fair bit of aluminium in the wing structure.

It is fascinating to see them go together and in mass production so efficiently..I'd love to own and operate one of these. Investing in a plane is straightforward enough as it will hold it's value and would be a safe long term investment..In the UK it's the rest of the cxap that makes aircraft ownership prohibitive..maintenance, hangarage, insurance etc..

How does it work in the States ?

It is much more expensive than years ago.
Having an Airframe and Powerplant license helps greatly with maintenance etc.
Hangar rent can get pricey, my good friend has his Cessna 170 at a hangar on a private field that a dozen went in together to build.
I do a good bit of work for him too.
The annual inspections and insurance keep it tough here also.
But not at the level in the UK.
When you come to visit the states (in good weather) visit me in central PA and I can arrange a ride or two!
Here is work last week.

Thanks Ed..That's an offer I would seriously like to take up so cheers.

I'm not wealthy so buying an airplane would be an absolute all out for me and I'd have to be very inventive with the running costs....

thnk u :)
