100 years ago, Britain declared war on Germany and joined in WW1

It was said that "The lights went out over Europe"

So tonight at 11.00 pm we doused the street lights here and left a single light burning ..The light of hope.

May it keep burning brightly or we're in big trouble...

Joe, the LightsOut effort is a beautiful tribute to remember such unfortunate events. What's sad is that the lessons concerning what's at the root of these wars and altercations always seem to be forgotten. We're doomed as a species if we keep repeating those mistakes as it will take just one idiot to eventually set the world on fire. Let's hope this single light of hope wakes everyone up. Post more picks of LightsOut if you have them. For sure there will be some great shots turning up.

On the eve of commencing Hostilities, Edward Grey, British Foreign secretary, looked out over London from his office window and said " The lights are going out all over Europe. We will not see them again in our lifetime"

So last night lights were dimmed all over the country and just one candle was left lit in Westminster Abbey..The light of hope...
