Hi there,

I'm going to look at one of these this weekend. Very low miles, 2015 model in white, for a really good price.

However, looking at the photos it appears to have the dash from a Rivale. There's no fuel gauge to the left hand side. I was led to believe all Stradales had a fuel gauge? Seems odd, if not, but the seller doesn't seem to know anything about this.

My other question is, how easy are these bikes to work on? I'll be coming from a 1st generation Multistrada which is an absolute pain to work on, so i really want to be assured this bike has been put together in a manner which makes it easy to maintain.

Fuel gauge was present on my 2015 Stradale but not plugged to the dash.

Depends what you mean by working on it.

For scheduled service let the dealer do the job.

Warranty covered the rear hub that got chewed up by the sprocket holder.
'Twas the only severe mechanical trouble for about 20 000 miles in less than 2 years.

The Stradale is very well built and durable.

But

I had to change the warped brake rotors (not covered by warranty).

The blinker got water sloshing inside. Punched a small hole at the lowest point.
Problem solved.

The Stradale has 4 taillights 2 of them on the panniers 2 on the bike.
In case of failure -it happens- swapping the lights would be a smart move.
No joy, they have >:) different connectors!
In order to replace the failing part you'll have to rip the connector off the working unit!
And claim warranty for the dead light with dangling wires and stripped plug.

The hydraulic clutch receiver switch, same as the TV, will fail.
Bad karma!
The Stradale, unlike the TV, won't start even in neutral if the clutch isn't engaged.

The clutch receiver (espensive part) is easily replaced and covered by warranty.
Clutch needs bleeding after getting the new part.
If the wrench has two left hands with five thumbs each
just a bubble forgotten in the pressure switch and the new receiver will soon fail
again :crying:

Apart from those teething troubles The Stradale is agile, fast and fun.
Also surprisingly practical with the soft bags.

I've checked with a MV dealer near to me and they have confirmed that no Stradales they came across in the UK had a dash with a fuel gauge on it. So maybe it was only Stradales across the pond that got it? It's not a deal breaker, I'll just have to get used to counting the trip again!

The dealer also recommended bringing it in asap after it's been purchased to get the latest ECU updates, to address any issues that could potentially cause a part failing, such as the sprag.

Hopefully I'll be buying it in the next couple of weeks!

It was lauded by the press on release about it being the first MV Agusta with one so I would have thought a dealer would know that, although seeing as MV only sold about 10 to the UK theres a fair chance your dealers never seen/worked on one, Who is it?

Suspect maybe there was an issue with the dash on the one your looking at and they couldn't get a Stradale one so fitted a Rivale instead?
You could find you'll have other issues in that case as the Stradale had a heated grips option, not that the one your looking at probably has them but might be an issue to retro fit if its the wrong dash? Gets me thinking, don't want to be all doom and gloom but maybe its a crashed Stradale thats been fixed up with Rivale parts, there are certainly more of those available?

Great fun to ride, impressive spec and fast, used to annoy the shit out of super bike riders on twisty B roads, you'd see them checking their mirrors and i'd be like "yep, still here" :D

Note that when MV were going bust (restructuring) they sold off all their stock cheap to dealers prepared to buy them so they were flogging them off £9k new last year, £2500 off RRP. Used dealer prices are around the £7k mark.

Oh also, if the dash has been changed then the odometer will be wrong as the mileage is stored on the dash.

Not sure about working on them as I only had mine for 1500 miles so it only had its first 600mile service done at the dealers, but common failing issues were the indicators due to water ingress, quickshifter faults again water ingress.
Spray clutch failures (mine was replaced at 1200 miles) Throttle sensor errors which results in a “gas position error” and the bike shuts down, by all accounts cured by replacing the handlebar throttle assembly, my local dealer just insisted firmware updates were the fix, after the third time I gave up and got rid of it.

hi Ackers, I rang Moto Corsa in Salisbury. To be fair I was chatting to the workshop manager, but he was pretty sure he'd not seen one with a fuel gauge before. Interestingly, I was watching the bike show review on YouTube and that bike didn't have a fuel gauge either! Maybe mv had a shortage of dashes when they are making the bike and just used a rivale dash here and there to make up numbers? The service record doesnt state a dash change at any point.

The bike was initially a dealer demo bike until the dealer went bust and they sold it on to another dealer in Newcastle (funnily enough the original advert is here with the dash showing at 500 miles http://www.motorcyclesupermarket.com/used-motorcycles/2015-(64)-Mv-agusta-Stradale--in-Newcastle-Upon-Tyne-6387377) which is where the seller bought it and then only put another 500 miles on it.

Seems legit to me.

You bet!

Got my MY15 Stradale out of the crate at the dealer.
The dash still had his protection film.

The fuel gauge in the tank wasn't plugged anywhere.
Wasn't even a spare connector on the wiring loom near the fuel gauge.

So it is very unlikely that the dealer hot swapped the dash ***AND*** the wiring loom with similar items from a Rivale before the delivery.
They weren't that handy.
Even bolted the handguards on the wrong ends of the handlebars!

BTW the fuel gauge on my TV is plugged to the wiring
and shows on the dashboard.

Since the 10 000 miles service instead of the fuel level
the dashboard shows an error message making the indicator useless.

The Stradale has the killer racy look of the Rivale.

But the Stradale frame, engine, gearing and ECU are the blueprints for the Turismo Veloce.
'Xcept the Stradale is about 40 pounds lighter than the TV and has no slipper clutch.

With the Rivale seat,
the original Stradale seat being for mightily strange bottomed peoples,
the Stradale is fast and nimble.
A whole lot more capable and agile than the old fart ride the TV is.

Well he’d definitely seen one........mine :D
Mine too was a dealer ex demo, a March ‘15 bike with 15 miles on it, dealer had it in for a year and no one rode it, it came from MV Leicester, again another MV dealer who went bust. Paid £9k for it delivered down to Bournemouth and he gave me a very favourable exchange for my Brutale 800 so I was happy, glad I’d not paid £11,500 for one a few months earlier and like I said, Bennett’s in Barnsley were knocking them out for £9 brand new a few months later, hey-ho.

Agree about the seat, the sculptured profile of it won’t suit all, was ok for me though as I’m a bit of a short arse at 5’9” but can understand taller riders feeling cramped with it.

An absolute weapon, you’ll love it as long as it behaves itself reliability wise. I chopped mine in because of the throttle issue and not feeling I was being taken seriously, that and the warranty had run out and would be relying on MV’s to fix an issue which started when the bike was under warranty but still not fixed, feedback from MotoCorsa wasn’t exactly filling me with confidence and so I went back to Kawasaki, not as much fun to ride but happier I’ve got a bike that won’t shut down just as I’m trying to overtake!

That’s certainly the best colour ;)

Ah ha, probably more a memory issue than anything then!

Good info (Arci and ackers). I understand why you have gone back to a Japanese brand, but try as I might I can't do it. I crave that exclusivity, that quirkiness.

Obviously if a bike is downright unreliable then that's no good, but hopefully it will work out. My multistrada (1st gen) has many reported issues from owners over the years but it's only been 100 per cent reliable over two years of constant use.

I do have my eyes wide open going into this, though. My local ducati specialist will happily work on mv, and since there's no warranty left I'm not worried about the dealer support.

Fingers crossed the seller accepts my offer now!

Oh hands down without a doubt, if I had the money and the room I would go out and buy another Brutal 800 tomorrow without even flinching. My Brutal 800 was faultless for the 3 years and 7500 miles I owned it. Was sad to see it go but was taking the mrs out on the back more and more so needed to change direction, then we needed more luggage space than the Straddle could offer and my local Kawasaki dealer offered me a great deal on a new Z1000SX so I had no hesitation going back (bought 6 bikes from them before).

Im sure you will massively enjoy the Stradale, its a great bike that sold in very few numbers, I would be shocked if you saw another one on the road during your ownership which is always nice (SX's are 2 a penny!) MV stitched themselves up with that one, bringing out the TV so soon afterwards, a bike just as capable but more versatile and the same money, was the death nail for the Stradale

Paid for the TV about $2000 more than for the Stradale.

Ah well ... fast women and slow horses.

The TV is nowhere as fun, fast and racy like the Stradale.

Capable or versatile TV?

Only on dirt roads the TV Lusso (lot more $$$) will fare better than the Stradale,
because of the assisted front shocks.

Read somewhere that one can load a motorcycle helmet in the TV pannier,
not in the Stradale soft bags.
Since I wear my helmet on my head, I fail to see the relevance.

The Stradale is lively and agile, the TV is heavier and painfully sluggish.

Older gents, I have been told, talk endlessly about a better fairing for the TV.
Compared to the beautiful, minimalist but very efficient Stradale screen.
Protection, all that...

Seriously, when the wind noise or rain drops stops you from watching So You Think You Can Dance on the Fox channel,
dozing on the doddering throne of your geezermobile TV,
the problem isn't with the size of the screen of the bike.

Get real.

Only bad >:) bad drawback of the funny flat face of the Stradale,
here the TV sports a more better design,
the flat face gives the Stradale excellent visibility to a laser or radar beam.

Not that the slow old coot on his somnolent TV would be at risk with the spider pockets.

you certainly have a way with words arci!

Is there any difference in overall size between TV and Stradale? I remember thinking the TV was a good fit but the side panels fouled my legs which was very uncomfortable (I'm 6'4", hence the need for a tall upright bike) whereas the stradale feels a bit smaller somehow (even though the dimensions are the same) but it's more comfortable.

None.

The word is: ergonomics.

The Stradale tank holds 16 l or 3.5 imperial gal.
TV has 1 more imperial gal inside her, tank is wider.

Turismo, not that veloce, is apathetic, slower
hence flog her tits as you want, the TV goes a lot farther on a tank than the Stradale.

The Stradale, with the Rivale seat, has a long narrow seat.

I'm not kidding, check the TV seat, it's wider than a toilet seat!
Try to move on your TV, the semi-hard plastic bump lodges smack in the ass crack.
Big plus, or PIA.

Stand on the Stradale pegs, lock your elbows, steer from the shoulders, rush your weight all the way back to curb fishtailing, lament your low TC settings, coulda be a gravel patch.
Stretch a leg, drag your heel on the asphalt, slap the other knee against the tank...

The Stradale is fun, frisky and safe.

Try this on a TV :grin2: you are an ungainly clown.

Sorry to bring this back but, I just need some clarification. I have a 2015 Stradale and there is no fuel gauge, is it just a matter of pluging it in? And if so, is there a software update required after that?

You GOT a long thermistor in your Stradale tank.
It ***could*** display the fuel level on the Stradale dash.


Plug it in the dorsal wiring harness?
On mine no such plug existed.
The thermistor wires were left dangling in the wind.



If there is no fuel gauge showing on the top left corner on your Stradale dash...

... And if so, is there a software update required after that?
It would be the mother :nerd2: of all SW updates
that would etch on the back plate of your Stradale dash the black bars for the fuel level!


BTW I found an elegant, cheap and simple solution
to show the fuel level on the Stradale dash :smile2: that has no such provision.
But the margin of this post is too narrow to display it.

Unfortunatly, I noticed that I have no fuel gauge on the left side of my dash. Its the gear indicator that's in that area. Guess I'll keep track of the mileage I do and refuel acordingly.


Kind of weird that Mv put different dash for the same model year.
