So my 2012 F4 is ~12months out of warranty with 4.5k KMS on it and has suffered an apparent big end bearing failure.

Used rarely and mostly to commute, all service done by authorised repairer.

Is it worth pursuing MV Imports Australia for statutory warranty or am I wasting my time??

Was going to buy a dragster for Christmas but this has changed my mind!!

Cheers Hollywood

Certainly worth asking....politely......for some consideration, based on low mileage and maintenance.

Explain your disappointment and ask if there is any help MV might be able to offer to put your pride and joy back on the road.

Had a 2 year warranty didn't it? You must have bought in 2011?

If you go in guns blazing and demanding and accusing you will probably not get far. Good luck.

Ed, has a good point. I had a way out of warranty Kawasaki ZX-11C that lunched a gear-box. A known 11C issue. When I took the gears to Kawasaki to have 2nd replaced and the shift levers replaced, the dealer asked for he whole assembly. I figured I was going to be out several hundred dollars as we talked about what needed to be done. As we parted by final comment was "thanks, see what you can do."

Two weeks later, I got the call. The gear box was ready. Check-book in hand off to the dealer I go. When I got there, they talked ot me about what had been done...a completely brand new ZX-11D gear set up with the newer, more robust gearing and shift levers for HP those bikes put out. Yikes! I got out the check-book and was told to put it away...they did it as a warranty repair. WOW.

My understanding is the electricals have 1 yr warranty and the mechanicals are 2 years.
Provided service records are correct you should be ok. What is it with you Perth boys blowing up motors?
You are the second who has lunched a 2010+ motor...

Contact the department of fair trading mate for advice as well. We actually have really strong protections in terms of fair use warranty etc

Mate, 12 months out of warranty you'd be wasting your time & breath.

I think the path taken on Ed's advice is the best way forward - interesting to see what pans out here. We had a brake failure years ago on the Mrs' Mercedes out of warranty similar circumstances & they came good on it... again interesting to see what pans out.....

But I must say, I am little lost on how a 2012 bike with a 2 year warranty is 12 months out of warranty in 2014?

Good luck.

Cheers Boys,

I actually didn't even know that I had 2 years on engine until 'Esq'z me' mentioned it so I should be sweet. I haven't taken my bike to the dealer in WA due to the fact they are pretty unless. It is with my bike mechanic 'Protwin Australia' who is an Italian specialist whilst I wait to hear back from MV Imports Australia.

Will keep you posted.

You will have to take it to an authorized MV dealer for any warranty repair.....best find one you can trust.

Glad to hear you are in warranty period. Should be no problems with coverage.....at a dealer.

Hey Donsy, Yeah mate there are a few of us in WA. I only personally know one other guy with an F4 and would be keen to meet a few of you.

Thats not mine at Justins but it was parked next to it! haha

I dont want to vent my issues with the MV WA dealer at the moment but there is a reason I called Protwin to pick it up when it first broke down!

Whoa, what sort of pipes are they? I bet they sound nice.
Hey Grant

Yeah they are Zards and they do sound amazing when your up it but deafening around town... I went with the Bodis to keep the typical MV look but a mate of mine in Malaysia runs the Zards on his race package.
