2yrs is the factory standard warranty from MV, I'd imagine any extended warranty service would be at the discretion of the dealer and most likely cover the period following the 2yr manufacturer warranty (minus those 2yrs off the extended period). Personally, I wasn't offered one that I can recall, which makes me believe my Harley oriented dealer didn't have much long-term faith, or experience, in the product.
IMHO, extended warranties are both too long and too short. Things break early and are covered by the manufacturer or just after the time frames of the extended warranty. Dealers wouldn't offer them if they didn't make them money. :baddeal:
Watch for stipulation against any modifications or upgrades you plan on doing to your bike. If they can avoid covering something under warranty or blaming it on you, they will (seen it done too many times). Heck, Mitsubishi were cancelling Lancer Evo warranties if there was any notion you were racing it in any manner.
Anyone wanting to stand up for the altruism of Dealers, and/or the customer only benefit of extended warranties, feel free to strike me down :lightning
On the other hand, I've seen them work out tremendously well for a very few and some of them had to fight pretty hard for that to happen.
