Hi all MV-lovers

I have had an issue with my radiator, basically it leaks coolant on the top right corner. It's been repaired but the leak migrated 2cm left of the fix... So it is time to adopt a more permanent solution.

Now I have jumped on a new radiator on eBay and it's almost identical but there is no pressure cap on the top of the radiator tank (there is one on the current repaired radiator).

Is it possible to swap like for like and just clip the hose that was coming on the top of the radiator tank? I got confirmation from MV techs but conflicting advice from people I trust to be mechanics-savvy.

Thanks for all suggestions...
I am ready to take the hit for a new radiator from MV if there is any risk, that will be pricey but not as much as a new engine.

Stay up.

I'd push for a warranty replacement, even though you might be just beyond it. No way that radiator should fail like that.

The cap is a pressure releasing device in the event of a boil over..

The bike is not under warranty anymore...

Both radiators are the same size. I removed the current one and checked directly against the new one. I try to include a pict.

The MV specialist told me that the cap on the overflow bottle would play the same role as the pressure cap on the radiator tank, despite being in plastic.

Thanks for your answers already guys!

I'm looking for one solution, because I don't trust in this piece

On the one model, the one without the cap on radiator, the reservoir has a pressure cap, that is the only pressure release location in the system.
On the model with the pressure cap on the radiator, the bottle is just an overflow recovery tank.
Which one have you got, maybe ask the specialist to explain this.

Thanks Donsy. I will try to find a bottle with pressure cap in order to use the radiator I bought. Otherwise I will take the hit and buy another radiator. It's just 1 grand and 3 weeks delivery time...

Worth ask MV if they will do it under warranty before you spend the money, pretty sure that's the same place mine was leaking and I've seen a few reports will similar issues...

Thanks for the info and advice. I used some liquid fix and had no leak on the last ride. I will go for a longer one on Sunday and get the verdict. I will also write to MV but won't hold my breath...

Mine has started leaking in the same place. 2012 1090R. I can't actually see the leak and it is only small as the coolant level is not dropping.

Of course, 6 months out of warranty now....bugger

Interesting. My 2011 1090R has just developed a pin hole in the core in a similar spot (top right hand corner, radiator cap side on the back). No sign of anything impacting it or rubbing.

I was planning to have it repaired but I'm concerned it will happen again looking at the above. Any updates from previous posters?

I have a 2013 1090RR, no issues yet but I wouldn't be surprised if the mount adjacent to the leak doesn't have something to do with it. is the radiator strengthened where the bracket is? Car radiators that I have seen on modern cars sit in rubber mounts with the force vertical, the brackets at the bottom take the weight and the ones at the top go over the top of the radiator, usually locating with a vertical pin - to just keep the radiator positioned. Could the mounts be applying some twisting stress to the radiator?

The repairer I took mine to wasn't confident it would be fixed permanently as the top tube had a hole/split. He was surprised as the radiator is a reputable make from Japan, apparently. I ended up getting a new one. They are dear enough. The cost of a repair here was $120 and may not work. Of course, the high price quoted may just have been to put me off as he didn't want to do it

sorry, meant to mention, I did get mine off the internet from a place in Bristol. Worked out about A$400 cheaper than the local dealer wanted, even after delivery.

No bracing/reinforcing as such. My leak is a pin hole in about the 3rd tube from the top so I don't think that's the issue for me at least

I was quoted around the $80 - $90 mark so dropped it off to attempt repair this morning.

wayner - can you recall the name of the place you bought yours through? Just in case I end up having to replace...

Hi Lurch ,My Mates 2011 Brutale also received a pin hole at about the same position as yours,He tried to repair it cost about 100 bucks, but failed after 1 ride. So he purchased it from Startwin trading, they are the cheapest .if you buy it here expect 1300.00 dollars ,check the their website , plus it all depends on the exchange rate,i think it is pretty good at the moment.Must be a fault with them?.

cheers eddy
