Hi guys can anyone with a 1090 check how much rotational movement they have on their rear sprocket. I've done 6000 miles and I could turn the sprocket about 4mm by hand when it wasn't under load. My dealer said the cush bushes were knackered and changed them under warranty, I had no play at all when I collected the bike from the dealer but I've covered about 300 miles since and I can now move the sprocket about 2mm. I'm guessing that there shouldn't be any movement at all.

Just checked mine and has probably got 3mm front to back and 2mm side to side .

is this similar to others ? how about the new F4's ?

should i be concerned ?

Funnily enough my 41k mile 650 BMW doesn't seem to have any .

Just a bit of useful information for future reference, :)
My cush drive rubbers on my EVO3 rear sprocket decided to give up and fall apart (rubber disintegrated!) only after 18 months of fitting , I paid £25+vat x 5 (£150) from MV so not very happy :cry: .
This forum :highclap: put me on to the idea that ducati 916 were the same, so i bought some.
They are the same but the price is £9 each!!! and the quality is far superior to the MV ones, ducati had this breakup issue too, so i think they have put more effort into the moulding. So a saving of nearly £100 and better quality!
The Ducati part number is 70090171E.
Thought you may like to know. :)

I also noticed similar movement on my 1090 with just over 600 miles on the clock - I spoke to Forza Italia at Silverstone and they told me that it's normal - I'll keep an eye on it and if it gets worse I'll see about getting the rubbers changed under warranty

On every other bike I've owned I've never had more than a couple of mm. Mine got to 4mm and the dealer said they're fubared and changed them. I've now got 2mm after just 300 miles, back to the dealer who said he would need to check with MV in Italy to see what an acceptable tolerance is. I think this is just MV covering up for crap cush rubbers.

Mines the same after 900 miles, about 2 mm play, I can't find a service limit in the workshop manual but most bikes have zero angular movement...

same here 1k miles on a new bike and about 2 or 3 mm maybe slightly less side to side and forward/rev when the bike is on the sidestand and moving the sprocket by hand.

play?

the other day i had 3 cush drives off of bikes
16,000 mi, ~6,000 mi and unknown mileage
i put an axle vertically in the vise and lightly clamped on the drive pins that go into the wheel
measured with a dial indicator on a sprocket tooth radial play was 0.05 mm to 0.07 mm under finger pressure

the sprocket nut was not used so i didn't measure axial play

neither my 30,000 mile Aprilia nor 27,000 mile KTM have any play
either

Are you guy's sure you are moving the actual sprocket and not the chain or something, 3-4mm, I find that hard to believe. My rubbers have done 8000km of racing and even with tiny tears in them I have no noticeable movement. I looked at the spare I bought from CAG and also no movement worth mentioning.
If you really have that much movement, then new MV owners better start speaking to the factory.

Definitely the cush drive rubbers. I took mine to Bennetts in Barnsley and they took a video showing the amount of play which they sent off to MV, so they are well aware of the issue. Interesting that Moto GB (Importers) had plenty in stock, almost as if they were expecting issues.

Thanks Flushman, or whatever your name is, I thought there had to be something going on. So in conclusion to that, guys with the new MV's better keep their eyes peeled.

i measured 3 of the 4 MV drives that i have......next to zero play:naughty:

guess MV is now buying the rubbers.....from somebody that makes shit ones

guess i'll be keeping my old spares:naughty::yo:

Hi Flushman - did Bennetts ever get a reply from MV?
I like Russ at Bennetts and as far as dealers go I do think they care a bit more than most, BUT. On this occasion not a word from them since I highlighted the issue three months ago. I think they're just hoping I'll find an alternative fix. I know Billywiz managed to sort his with a bit of innertube, (Thanks for the PM Billy) I'm going to let mine run a few thousand miles more before I really start kicking up a fuss. I've got about 2mm play now and I'm off to Germany to have a go at the Nurburgring at the end of the month so I'll let you know how FUBAR'D it is when I get back.

sprocket movement

i have alittle movement in mine. i think with those bubber bushings there will always be some movement, it can't be 100% solid,

I Just Rechecked Mine, And Its Hard For Me To Tell If Its Rubber Or Like Donsey Said The Chain. Going On 9000 Miles, I Tjink Mine Are Ok
