I have been lurking here for a little while taking in all the wisdom. Well, I went to Pro Italia today to check out bikes and they have four 1078's there 2 white, one red and one black. I liked the white a lot, but the red one really speaks to me. In terms of ergos the 1078 fit me like a glove, so no issues there. I feel pretty smitten with the Brutale, so the question becomes, do I get a good deal on an '09 or wait for the 1090 to hit early next yr with the TC and smoother power delivery for a few extra $$? I already have a Hyper and a few other bikes, so the wait won't be a big deal. What are your thoughts? Thx in advance.

if money isn't an issue, then why not get the latest. if you are trying to buy at a certain price point, then the 1078 is a smarter choice

I have the same issue. Actually I was looking at cheap(er) new old stock 910R - Refer earlier thread "Which Brutale?" -
I probably wasn't the only with this idea as 3 of the 910R I had identified as "bargains" have gone in the last 10 days. Dealers are now trying to put me on a 1078, but I think I'll wait until the 1090R is available. They say end Q1 in OZ, but there are always delays...I had a 750S in the past, it appears the ergos are the same on the 1078. My 185cm/90kg frame was a tight fit on the 750. In fact when I picked it up from the dealer, my bro was on my 1150GS riding behind me. When I asked him about how the brut looked from behind, his answer was "You look big mate...". So I could do with a bit more room, higher seat, friendlier ergos which apparently the 1090R delivers. Not too worried about power delivery as it's what the fun is about.
Unless there are very very good deals on offer on the 1078, I'm going to wait for the 1090R. In the meantime very happy to keep commuting on my trusty K1200R - also a bundle of fun.
Btw, I read somewhere that the 1090R engine was just an upgrade on the 1078, pending a whole new engine being finalised for it. Does anyone know about this?

I haven't seen too many 1090R tests other than http://www.motorcyclingmagazine.com/2010_MV_Agusta_Brutale_1090_RR_Review
Does any know of other write-ups?

hey Mick,
we'll have to meet up for a ride when you get your new Brute, i'd really like to know what they're like and especially compared back to back with a fully sorted 910R!!

Can the 1078 be tamed a bit in terms of power delivery with a PIII geared more towards torque? I do like the return to the star wheels though provided that they arent heavier than the Marzcs

They are.
Tuning is one thing, but just like there's no replacement for displacement, unless you make it smaller, it's a beast. More than enough torque too.

Sure thing mate, but it's gonna be a while before the 1090R are on the dealer floors. In the meantime, other than my daily commute on the K1200R (Northern Beaches-City) I'm planning a couple of day trips in Jan to show relos Euroland the sights :) anything from just West Head/Akuna Bay, to Wisemans Ferry/Mangrove Mountain/Old Road or even the full Wollombi/Putty Rd loop depending on appetite and weather on the day. Will borrow a mate's bike for the relos or hire one (bikescape?)

Btw, where do you service your 910R?

Nah...PCIII won't work on euro3 bikes like the 1078.
If you want a soft throttle, talk to XBikes. They have what you need. The MicroTek ECU will turn the 1078 into a docile monster...but still a monster.

Cameron?
I wonder whether that's the same bloke who used to service my 750S at Casoli Motors in Cromer back in 2005/06. Casoli closed down though.
He was good. M Weaponry have got a good name too.
Cheers.
