Should I buy a bike that is driven much on track .

I am looking for a used F4, And my first choice is an F4 1078 mono.
This bike With 7600km I have agreed on a reasonable price.

But now a while after I agreed with the dealer about the price , it turns out that it is used for racing.

Is this a bike I should steer clear of. Or is it just healthy with many track kilometers.

The bike looks sassy. But it is perhaps not so surprising when it has run with race fairing.

Eh... As in 'rain'...
After he says that it is partially dry.

Oh, OK

For a moment I thought it was HansPeters old bike.
I'd be careful Glenn, the 1078's eat their clutches when used on the track, get good info on that at least.

Sometimes track bikes are better maintained than casual street bikes.

All of my track bikes had the following:

- Oil Changed Every 2 weekends (4 track days)
- Clutch Plates changed yearly
- Brake Pads Changed every 3 months
- Brake/Clutch Fluid Changed every 4 weekends (8 track days)
- Air Filter cleaned regularly
- Suspension Calibrated
- Chain changed Annually

So it really depends on the previous owner. If he was meticulous about his bike you might be better off than buying a bike that looks clean on the outside but has sat and has hidden problems that you cannot see from sitting.

It really depends. I would inquire about his service intervals and if he seems like the type who did regular maintenance, it might be worth a second look.

Thanks for the feedback. I have sent my concerns to the dealer and require full story on the bike.

I must not be too eager even though it is not so easy to find a pretty F4 1078 mono. I have to look for one of the 275 others that are produced.

The trade is interrupted when the seller does not know the story of the bike.

That does not necesseraly make it a bad bike. Can you not inspect it closely and make a testride?

yamadogr1 03-10-2016 08:44 AM

Have it checked out by an independent mechanic you trust. You will probably have to pay for the inspection. If the seller refuses to allow this to be done I would walk away from the bike.
