Hi, im new to the forum and was just looking for some advice with regard to buying a Brutale 989r.
I am currently riding a Triumph Street Triple R, an awesome bike with a fantastic motor. But after a day of test riding last week I have fallen for a Brutale 989r! I have always liked the look of Brutale's but never got round to trying one out until last week. All I can say is wow! Im am seriously looking to add one of these to my fleet and would just like some info from owners/ enthusiasts
Such as are there any known faults/ problems?
What are servicing intervals/ costs?
How is the resale price of these machines with being exotic/ uncommon?
Are there plastic headlight protectors available? (I have been through a few headlights on my Triumph with stones so I am not a fan of glass lenses!)
My local dealer said he might be able to work out a deal to better the £8750 RRP if I dont need the 0% finance currently available.
Hi there, I've been a Ducati fan but switched to MV a couple of months ago. Bought a new 1090RR, great bike and would highly recommend. If you're near Aberdeen, you're welcome to pop round for a look and chat
Hey I just had a shot of that very bike this morning at Shirlaws in Aberdeen and was offered the exact same deal as yourself.
I only test rode that one because niether the 2 dealers in Scoltand had a 1090RR demo, I have to say I loved it so much that I went home and put down my deposit for the 1090RR at my local dealer after he let me have a quick go on it with trade plates on.
The 1090 is far better for comfort, mirrors and suspension and definatly worth the extra money.
I to rode a triumph, a 1050 speed triple, fantastic bike and motor, trouble free, but as soon as i jumped on the mv, a 1078 that was it, sold the trumpy the next week, dont know anything about the 989 but its an mv enough said, go for it.:brutale:
Hi and welcome...nice to see you here....alot have gone for the RR as above, but I can only comment on the 910R which the RR replaced
Suspension much firmer than the Street
Much better as higher speeds
Services..big one at 600 miles, then middle and big alternating at 4 and 8K..the 4 is 5 hours and the 8 is 8 hours, so can be expensive
There have been some stalling issues, but more pre 2008
Headlight glass you will want to protect, they are expensive and you may need to but a complete unit, not looked for a protector yet, but had one on my F4
Mine has lost quite a bit in just over 2 years, but 8750 sounds a good price
if you thought the street sounded good, the B4 is better, and from 6k onwards its just so much more
I dont through it about as much as I do the Street, mainly because its not so light, but I am aware of the cost of teh B4!!
Maybe amend your post to include teh 989 in the title, but you will get some good advice..good luck

RedST from over on street-triple.co.uk forum I assume?
I cant justify the cost of any of the other models other than the 989r as I will most likely be keeping the ST3R aswell and im away half the year working offshore and it will most likely be raining or snowing rest of the time im home. Alot of money sitting in the garage doing nothing. At £8750 989r seems a bargain imo.
I really loved the Brutale so think I will take it out for another test drive when I get home then see what im thinking then.
Thanks for all the advice guys I may return, watch this space......
Having taken test rides on all pre-2010 Brutales, I would categorise them in three groups:
750 - very revvy, not much torque
910/989 - more focus on torque, less on revs
1078 - loads of everything
So if you are looking to save some cash, why not go for a 910/989 that's had the first service done. Do have the fusebox/ECU checked out (behind the panel on your inside right leg) to make sure it is the uprated version. I had an older one and it failed, leaving me with an unpleasant receipt.
For the rest, it's been a blast sofar. And I can only agree with Red: Go for it!
