Envious of MV?

Has anyone else experienced Mv envy? What i mean is when your riding along and another rider is behind you, feels it`s necessary to blast past you just to prove a point?

I`ve never had it happen when I`ve ridden previous bikes, but today some asshole almost took my elbow off.

I wasn`t driving Miss Daisy, but i was scrubbing in a new rear. This guy ( with a pillion ) blasted past me on an sv1000 just as i was about to turn-in on a right hand bend with his pegs sparking!

What makes it worst is the seris of bends is know locally, and by the authorities as ` the dead bends`. Two of my mates have been involved in serious crashes there and one didn`t survive.

If this makes you feel any better, I think there is a law against following any Harley any time. I do not care if Im going 10 over, some Squid on a Sportbike will pass me at full throttle. (bicycles to) LOL.

i dont think it is jealousy. what ive found since owning an MV is when parked the first thing they for is the chicken strips. depending on the tires they either compliment you or make starbucks jokes. i think the majority of non italian owners believe the riders are sissies and some rich boys buying an expensive toy with bragging rights.

I've had alot more positivity directed toward my bike than not. Most blokes will give me the

'nice bike mate!' nod, and 9 times out of ten i'll have someone wanting to chat

(which i'm always happy to do) if we're stopped at lights. I find the guys that regularly ignore me and

probably everyone else are BMW riders. More than a few times i've been snubbed, jealousy i guess.

Amongst my group of friends, guys that ride Italian bikes (mainly Ducati) have a bit of rep for being posers. We all know thats mostly not the case, but you definately do see the guys with the elitist attitude. When I meet other riders I don't talk about my bike until they ask. We have all met the guy in the bar who asks what you ride and then starts talking about himself and his bike before you can get your answer out! No one likes that guy...

It doesn't matter what someone else rides, it's their pride and joy. It might be the biggest heap of shit in the world but the guy that owns it thinks it is awesome. As riders we have enough hassles without creating divisions based on what we ride.

Having said that, I see what was described in the original post occasionally. I usually deal with it by waving them past and then giving them a bit of a push along....when you get to the next stop every one has had fun.

Overall, the response to the MV is good. It's all about attitude. Like anything in life, if you act like you have a stick up your arse people will think you're a tosser...

Around here the biggest posers are the guys on the Jap bikes. They're the ones with no helmet, and the T-shirt, and flip-flops. The guys on the Euro bikes are usually decked out in full gear....they're in it for the ride, not to be "seen". The guys on the Jap bikes are about being seen and drawing attention to themselves.

As far as Italian bikes being "snob" bikes.....I don't care. I owned 9 Jap bikes before I got my first Italian bike (the 1098), worked my way up to it. I just buy whatever I like, don't really care what anyone else thinks. Plus, I've never been to a Starbucks in my life....

I used to wave at everybody when I first started riding, but got snubbed too many times....now I just wave at sportbikes first, everyone else I wait for them to wave first. Sad it has to be this way. The only thing that should matter is you're on two wheels.

I've actually got a friend here that does that kind of shit all the time. He rides a Suzuki and thinks it's all that. I let him ride like a idiot to make him feel better about himself :naughty:

On the day that my bike got smashed up i had seen an MV F4 on a motorway and was catching him up to give him a thumbs up for riding imo the greatest bike, but i think he saw this as hostile and took off like a rhino shot in the ass with a shotgun

The division between bikes is weird. When I ride my vstar people on other cruisers always wave, but not sport bike riders. When I ride my brutale, sport bike riders wave, but not the peeps on cruisers.

Now that I have both kinds of rides I can see better both sides of the fence. I still think the guys that wear t shirts and jeans with a bandana on their head are retarded on the harleys, and the douche's on sportbikes that wear khaki shorts and flip flops w/ backwards baseball caps are equally retarded.

I wouldn't be surprised if he knew there was a good set of twisties in coming and just wanted to wind it out. Might not have had anything to do with you other than you were in his way? We all get a little sensitive to other riders. I have a brutale and a Ducati and have never noticed this....Just trying to put your mind at ease! I have noticed my fellow Ducati guys blow attitude to Japanese riders Tho. I try not to! I did see a great post on the 1090 Brutale off the R-6 forum where those guys were cool and real honest about how much they liked the bike and had posted pics. I think we flow more attitude their way, than the Japanese riders do us. Just my 2 cents.

I own a Jap bike(s) and recently an MV. Envy from other bikers??
I get as many stares when on my Hayabusa, as when on my f4.
What`s going on?
Maybe it`s just bike fans. Riding or not.
Respect to all bikers and their rides IMO.
Personally my Busa suits me better on the road than an MV because of faultless fuelling, endless torque at any revs in any gear.
Just a lazy I guess. On track, just the reverse. MV first!!
Do I choose my bike because of my image?
Image is a big thing for all of us, be honest. But I also would not ride a bike I did not like. That`s the truth.
I ride what I want, and the rest of the world can think what they like.
End of sermon.

I always treat anyone who rides with respect as long as they reciprocate. Everybody that I have met on the MV loves it, wants to see it and many times want to take a picture of it. I have not had any problems with people giving me a hard time about it. I really could care less what anybody rides as long as they don't send the bill to my house.

I usually ride alone, and have noticed that sportbike riders wave, or at least will indicate that they have seen me, but cruisers, nakeds and such, rarely do anything in my direction.
To other cruisers, nakeds etc., a wave, flash of headlight maybe.
Not a problem for me, I wave at every bike that I see. We are a family that has ties to each other that cannot easily be explained.
Re. MV envy, the point of this post.
Look at the bikes you see on the road every day.
The late great L.J.K Setright among others acknowledged that "form follows function"
Therefore an MV is made for different things than, for example, a Yamaha FJ 1300. Obvious really. Accept the diference and allow others their choice.
Had to laugh at the comment about the Harley lifestyle commited rider who would not want a small uncomfortable bike like an MV!!
Devil`s advocate.
My next disertation will be about tunnel vision as applied to MV owners. Watch this space.
Go well and peace to all.

I was reading everyones post thinking 'how true' when all of a sudden I realised that most of my moments of retarded riding occur when I pull up next to another MV Agusta or a nice Ducati Monster or something! Im sooooo intimidated by a nice F4 when im riding my Brutale like i have some kind of point to prove my Brutale is just as fast. When its some run of the mill Fireblade or GSXR I really couldn't care less.

I wave at everyone, even kids on mopeds. It makes their day. My nephew rides a 'ped and he hates feeling like he's being treated like a second-class citizen just because he's got a small engine and L plates.

Of course, passing a large group of bikes in the opposite direction calls for a bit of a delicate diplomacy. You can't nod at each for fear of looking like a woodpecker and and waving at each will give you RSI. So I've devised a five second rule, where I assume that all passing bikes within a certain time frame saw me nod the last-time.
