I sold my 2006 Brutale 910 and just got a 2006 F4 1000 Matte Black. I'm picking it up on the weekend. The motorcycle has 3,500 miles bone stock.
My question is, what are the issues I should address right away? And of course things I should address down the road. I live in Los Angeles and I'd appreciate if you guys know of any reliable mechanic that won't cost me my kidney. I'm not so thrilled with Pro Italia, so please don't send me there. Or even better, if somebody local knows how to work on the F4, I'd gladly compensate instead of a shop :f4:
same as Brutie except fairing makes them run even hotter so I would keep my eye on the heat wrap condition in the belly pan and also the right hand fairing because prone to melt. The pins aligning the contacts for the indicators with the front cowel can shear off making the turn signals sparodic if so. You should replace the well nuts in the air box with rivnuts because if they fail they will drop a nut in cylinder 1 or 4 taking your engine with them. Besides this, I think no difference in issues from the bruties.
:stickpokeOh, and the other issue is that when you are riding the F4 you will be wishing it was a Brutie until you get it back into the garage or outside the cafe where you can start drooling over the F4's looks again.:stickpoke
The '06 uses the older eprom type ECU. In a way, I think they are better to mess with because swapping the eprom is super easy and very inexpensive relative to reflashing or replacing the newer ECU.
When I bought my '05 F4 it only had 339 miles and had the typical issues. It ran very warm and the throttle response was quirky.
I spent about $400 and bought a catless mid pipe. It's really very simple to swap out.
Find someone who can be sure the TPS sensor is set right. It's adjustable on the early bikes.
Then get with merc07 here on the forum. He's spent a ton of time messing about with the eproms for these bikes and has it very well figured out. He can set the fans to come on at a lower temp.
These three things will absolutely make your bike run like a scalded cat, and cure any overheat problems.
Even with the stock exhaust cans in place, after doing the above mine made 161.78 hp on the dyno.
