I don't think I've ever posted in the classic section before, but I hope this is of interest to you;
My other half, Arlene, was chatting to a gentleman she had met through work recently; somehow the subject of bikes came up, she mentioned that I have an MV; he says "my father was a great friend of Harry McDermott, who was the first MV dealer in Belfast".
So he sends this picture; it was taken about mid-fifties, on Gloucester Street in Belfast.
Any ideas on the model featured? I'm sure you'll have no problem there!
My thanks to George Hewitt; the photo was taken by his father, J.N. Hewitt.
great photo.
Is there an MV dealer in Belfast these days ?
I'm looking at getting an MV but there is none in shops down here in the south so at the moment looking at getting one from Germany instead
No MV dealers in the north either; I don't know anything about sourcing one from Germany, but if it was me, I'd look to someone like Russell Bennett in Barnsley- or perhaps someone in Wales would be handier for you? Just thinking about back-up, etc.
Absolutely fantastic photo - takes my breath away, I always feel like I was born a generation late.
I am with Ralf on the model, most definitely a 'flat top motor' so almost assuredly a 175. Have a look at front guard, absolutely no MV of the period had that kind of guard which is reminiscent of later 60s trials bike the Regolarita. Looks like some kind of private race bike for a local series? I am thinking 175 either CS or CSS.
I would definitely frame that picture for my garage if I owned the original photo - wonderful stuff thank you so much for posting it. ☺
