New 2010 F4 owner - several issues

Hi all,

A couple of months ago I took delivery of a "new" (ie. unused and unregistered F4. Love the bike, however a few things about the bike are causing me issues.

I've done a total of 1400 miles on the bike now and the main source of worry is that if I'm on a motorway (I've just come back from France where this was very apparent) and trying to hold a constant speed of around 80mph (seems to be around 6-6500rpm) the bike will surge and then lose power around this area. It is a total pain to ride.

According to my MV dealer this is a "normal" characteristic of the F4 engine. For real? I've been riding 30 years and had a lot of bikes (I've come from Yamaha R1s (my last one was stolen) and never ever experienced this before. On something as top-end as and MV I'd expect perfection. I suspect I'm being fobbed off. Is this normal?

The bodywork on either side of my rear lights appears to have distorted (where there are some internal lugs - I'll try and get some photos of this). The dealer has taken pictures of this to send back to MV - personally I couldn't care less what MV say; they sold me the bike, the panels need replacing.

I have what appears to be condensation inside the display - it seems to have originated from the bottom left where the red hazard warning button is; has anyone else had this issue? I personally don't think it's acceptable (I've thrown dirt bikes into rivers and never had the clocks get wet inside).

ETA: it is this EXACT problem...

My trip recorders seem to randomly reset and the traction control switch itself off. Again - any suggestions?

Overall, despite the bike being beautful, I am beginning to wish I'd just bought another R1. On top of the above has been the fact that not one of the recalls had been done on the bike (subframe fix, heat shields - who knows what else) and the rear tyre started splitting! The dealer isn't filling me with confidence either - as the customer I should not be having to point out to them that recalls haven't been effected.

All the above can be fixed, I hope, however I'd appreciate any views on my "surging" at 80-90mph constant throttle. Very frustrating.

Welcome. The surge is not normal. It is a problem, and has to be fixed, as all the other issues. It's a 4 year old bike not used for many of those years, and stored who knows where. MV quality is great.Consider a real fix to everything, or get rid of it for a newer model. You will love MV.

Hi - mine is from the dealer in Rochdale. To put it mildly I'm very very angry about this - all of these recalls/bulletins should have been done by them when the bike was PDId (it was bad enough that on the day I went to pick up the new bike they'd forgotten to fit the alarm - so back home I went after having taken the day off work (I'm not insured without it)).

So it's been in the shop since last Wednesday for whatever they are doing - it's piss poor. It should not be down to me - the customer - to be having to search on the web and find out what work they should have done.

I absolutely would not have bought this bike if I'd had any idea the support was so poor. I've had R1s since 1999/2000 and I'll be going back to them, no question, if this ownership experience pans out the way that I think it will.

And another thing - you will (from your avatar pic) be getting one of the same bikes as mine.

Check the date code on your tyres. Mine were the original 2010 tyres and at 580 miles splits started appearing in the rear sidewalls (seems a known problem).

INSIST that the tyres are changed; if you look at the walls of the tyre on your bike (and other 2010s in the showroom) you'll see a sort of "wave" pattern running around the circumference of the wall, about a centimetre from the bead; the splits will appear at the "crest" of the waves.

Mine was in the shop for an entire week for them to change the tyres.

I've got photos and the correspondence relating to this - pm me your details if required.

Welcome to the world of MV Agusta crap after sales service and a motorcycle that is not designed or built to be ridden but put on a wall and admired as Art!!!

I have had all the problems plus more, shit subframe fix, fuel tank expanded, dust in Display, fairing heat shields breaking up, mine doesn't like a steady throttle on motorways to! hence i've given up and selling the thing!
