Design Corse Water pump - Great upgrade!

All,

Just a quick review for the water pump Design makes. I wanted to wait for a week of riding to make sure that I could give an accurate account. It is easy after just a few rides to comment and not think about riding style, ambient temperatures, other upgrades ect...

So, given the week, the pump does its job and does it well. I added fans, water wetter and a good flush of the system.

Overall, the bike still can get hot, but now not as hot. I am maxing out at around 205-212 (vs. 225-235 not moving), but a few runs of the water pump and you can tell it cools it fast. The bike also can get down in the 160 range, but not often (ambeint temp 55). My thought is that the fluctuations are not just due to temp range, but but simply trapped heat. At times you can just tell it has not pushed out of the fairings and is hot, but again not as hot.

if you want this pump to change the way the bike operates and make it a nice cool, 600CC yamaha, well its not going to happen. But if you want a solid machined part that is built well and will put your bike cooler, this is it.

Now besides its operation, the part itself fit in like a charm and Design even filed off the little section that hits the crank. No big deal but it fit like a glove. I also got the part from England in less than a week and they were awesome to deal with.

Strong recommendation!!!!

Want your bike cooler - Do what everyone told me.... Go faster!

Cheers

I did the upgrade last fall, took 3 days for the pump to arrive. I have been very busy this summer and have not had much time to ride, but in the 500 or so miles, I would say it is better than the impeller upgrade. I probably have some air trapped in the system. I have not found a way to purge it. I'm 69 yrs young, so I have not tried leaning a 450 lb bike over to 45 degrees. 4000 miles and now the left fork leg is weeping, that will be this winters project.

I got the water pump installed as well. What a big difference. Now the bike actually has a proper fighting chance like the OP said for the bike to run cooler and not overheat. It ain't gonna cure the problem of overheating but it definitely keeps it in check. I love it. Worth the dough to upgrade! I also have the Muzzy aluminum fans and I also have the engine ice coolant in my bike.
