Hi,

Thanks for the compliment. To be anal it's aactually a Caterham...but yes, Lotus 7.

This one is factory built, one previous owner. It was built in 1998 and has the Rover 1.8 vvc engine in it. You can still buy then as kit form though.

Lotus were the original makers, but (I believe) Colin Chapman sold off the licence to Caterham Cars 40 years ago, so they could make them, as he didn't think it would be successful and wanted to concentrate on F1.

The Caterham was banned from racing as deemed to be 'too fast', as it was winning everything, but when it was allowed back in it promptly won the Nurburgring 24h by ten laps so was banned again....

Mine has 165bhp, the top ones now have 310bhp courtesy of the Ford engine and a supercharger....would love a go in one as I bet they rip up tarmac as they accelerate. They weigh just over 500kg and the top of the roll bar isn't even a meter off the floor, it's 990mm so very low. It's like a go kart and the other weekend I took part in the supercar event at Goodwood (out of 120 cars there were 10 Caterhams) and it keeps with almost everyone up to 100mph, then most start pulling away, until you get to a corner....

Its very rare that I ride on the roads, but this is my weekend treat when the sun is out.

Iíve always loved those, going back to the 60s when I drooled over the road tests. Closest thing to a street legal go kart until the Ariel atom.

Any body know what this is?
