You could probably replace the main bulb with an LED type, but I doubt you would get a very good spread of light, however it would certainly get you noticed when following traffic.

I've considered doing it if nothing to match the LED lights on the hand guards, as I find it looks a bit odd with a yellow light in the centre and blue lights at the sides.

I don't actually ride in the winter so don't need to worry about the brightness of the light at night, so it's more for aesthetic really.

HID is probably also an option, but you might find a similar problem with the light pattern (as well as blinding other road users).

Thanks much as I thought probably no real answer to the problem. I have a service booked mid October and will probably have to ride in the dark to get home - will ask the dealer and let you know if they come up with anything cheers Graham

Have replaced the standard headlight with an LED globe on my Rivale. Went from standard to HID conversion kit from MV. Lasted just over a yr til the globe went. Was absolutely brilliant light output for night riding. Just couldn't justify spending another $500 for a replacement kit, as the globes from MV aren't sold separately.

Was given an LED globe from a dealer to try. Must say I should've done this from the start. Has about the same light output as HID for half the price.

Any chance you could give us some more info? Pictures of the conversion, links to the product etc.

Considering doing this to mine while its parked up over the winter.

Looks like MV aren't making the HID conversion kit anymore for the Rivale.
That being said, you could always check with your local MV dealer if they can source a kit.
As most things MV are expensive.

An LED globe is the cheaper option & does the same thing as the HID.
It's very easy to change out the globes. I'm not sure on what type of globe you'll need.

Not the best pics, raining atm. Will have to take some video to get a better view.

thanks for the heads up.

Decided to give the LED route a try myself. After quite a bit of research I’ve decided to go for an all in one bulb without resistor, and that uses Phillips ZES chips which are meant to be far superior and brighter than other types.

We shall see how it goes!

Be aware I put a new lamp in my Stradale Philips Extreme 130 - sold by an eBay seller as totally road legal but failed Mot last week due to it being too 'blue'. Gave a far better light quality than the one it replaced not blue at all so be prepared!

It may be the testers own interpretation - but I could not get a real straight answer from him.

Saying that in my opinion the main problem with the light is the shape of the headlight itself - a case of style over function!! Which I'm happy to live with - which I'm sure I've seen discussed on this forum before!!

Anyway let us know how you get on with the LED - cheers Graham

Thanks for that graham, fingers crossed it works ok. I’ve heard the newer style led bulbs are designed to spread light like the original bulb so hopefully it won’t affect the MOT in that respect. I have the original bulb which I can always take along and ask them to swap if the LED is no good.

Just fitted an LED bulb! Easy to do and looks miles better than the original bulb. I’m yet to try it at night on the road, but I have no doubt it will be brighter.
