Question Dragster RR left blinker..big dodgy..

All,

I was out riding yesterday morning and noticed my left blinker was erratic. Got home, tried it, and yes: works, no works, but a light thump makes it work. Something loose or wet? This morning I got under the floating rear fender, took a look: could find nothing loose. I did clean the area, and spray with electronics cleaner, trying to get into the connector area. The lights are a string of LEDS, so probably pretty tough.

Seems to have worked? Did the connector get a bit corroded by dirt/rain? The design of putting the wires under the fender, to me, is just not very good engineering. Everything is exposed to road crud.

Makes me wonder if it would be better to ditch the floating fender and buy a tail tidy for my 2018 Dragster RR?
If the problem persists, I am going to look into the tail tidy solution. Any recommendations for a tidy?

Have a look inside the actual blinker. The light bulb connections to the metal tabs inside may be corroded/ bit dirty and need a bit of cleaning. Happens to mine from time to time.

Yeah, lose the bodacious stock fender and shed several pounds at the same time. NRC makes good stuff.

Agreed with GeorgO,

The clear lens comes off and you can pull the reflective housing out to have a look at the connections behind it if my memory serves me correct on the MY18.

I was wondering about the clear lens removal. Did not want to "force" it and break something. Thanks, your comment might be the permanent solution if the problem persists.

So, the clear lens pops out (use a thin knife?), then get inside and look for loose/corroded wire.

Will give it a try.

Sorry the 19s are incandescent bulbs.

The clear lens has a small single screw you undo to then take the lens out.

Did you find under the fender where the actually connectors are? there should be 3, one for left blinker, one for right blinker, and one for license plate light. Maybe they worked themselves loose for the left blinker?

The connector is sealed well, so I don't expect rain/dirt to be an issue.

Easiest thing to find the issue might be to pull the whole floating license plate arm off and go through it thoroughly.

All,

Looked at the blinker again and the problem persists. Some connector is loose. On the MY 2018, the clear lens does not have any screw. I attempted a gentle pry off the lens from the black plastic case with no luck. Any ideas on that?

Yes, found the screws under the floating fender: very difficult to access. Pulling the entire floating fender might be the fix. However how do I do that? And with Houston, TX USA heat humidity, in my garage: hellish.

I may take the bike to an independent mechanic. I need a working blinker in this traffic to be safe.

Ideas? Thanks!

I just mentioned how moisture and warm affect the inside of the comma shaped indicator.
Try to open the shell, very hard job to seal it again.


Local MV shop even tried to charge me 2H of work just to replace one unit!
Said it wasn't difficult or hard job
but took a long time and patience to route the wires.


So
you won't fix it easily.
An indispensable new blinker unit even as warranty won't be easy to get.
-I called EVERY MV dealer in a radius of 200 mi to ask if they had one LH rear indicator in stock-
NADA

Get adaptable units.
...The www.mvagusta.net search engine is your friend.
Stradale and Turislow also have the very same rear signals.
