Cheers

Wanted to say thanks to all the people posting all their interesting threads I have read over the last two years of owning my F3 800. I haven't posted much, so shame on me I know!

I sold her recently, have really enjoyed the thrill of owning a great bike but it let itself down with the starting. Will it or won't it. Does it need another sprag etc. Not trying to dis' what is a great bike. Maybe I will try again one day but there are so many bikes great bikes that are 'sorted' these days!!!

It truly is a shame that something as established as a sprag clutch is failing at such a rate. Driving people from the brand from issues that shouldn't be is a problem MV must fix.

I can appreciate your frustration, owned a 675 for two years and went through all the fuel mapping issues. Last year purchased the 800 and the problems with the sprag clutch, were often very embarrassing.
Two replaced, but then after the third, problem solved and the bike finally became a joy not only to own, but also to ride (8500 miles).

Now completely satisfied, waiting delivery of the RC in January. I just cannot see any other bike that would interest me. Having owned a CBR600RR, Fireblade and Daytona 675 over the last seven years, none of them has given me the same pleasure as the MV.

I just registered to be part of this forum due to my interest in a new F3 800. I haven't purchased the bike yet, because I'm now concerned about this issue. Based on my reading it seems a new F3 will need a lithium battery and electrical (cable) upgrade to be reliable. Am I off base?
I own a very reliable R1, but have loved the way the F3 675 looks.

The battery does not have to be lithium; but, the stocker is junk and doesn't last long. The cable upgrade is also not necessary...but it helps with starting current.

Did you take the bike in under the service bulletin that was issued for the sprag?

Well I replaced the cables and battery so I'm interested to see if the problem starts on mine. I told the dealer that I even get a whiff of the sprag and starting problems that I'm bringing it in.

Hello Spark. I have had new sprags fitted. As I understand MV will replace any suspect sprags under warranty per se. I would hope MV would honour claims outside of any warranty periods for the bikes? However it is something I cannot say I am enthusiastic about testing and exploring hence the sale of mine. Good luck with yours I hope you don't get the problem as it is a great bike to ride.
