On Vacation in Galway Ireland

We live in the North of Ireland...however I am off for the the week and we decided to take a little break in Galway city (over the border) on the west coast of Ireland...

Thought I'd post this up as it may be of interest to those who have never been to "The Emerald Isle"

We were in a little pub on the way down and just out of the blue and old boy with a flat cap..,ruddy complexion and huge beard walked in....got out his accordion and started playing traditional Irish music at the next table...a woman joined him and the bar tender grabbed a pair of table spoons and started playing them against his leg........

You gotta love Ireland..!

Off to Connemara national park tomorrow .....to visit 'Letterfrack' which is a beautiful little Irish village.

And on to "Roundstone' and the beach at 'Dogs bay'....the most picturesque village in Ireland.,with the iconic 'Dogs bay beach' stretching a mile into the Atlantic ...

Stay tuned...

Lovely to have you in Connacht Brian : )

You were just next door there to MacDonaghs Fish and chip restaurant....World renowned.

Ed Sheeran used to busk on that street not so many years ago,

My Dad's family are from Galway City.

Leenane at the head of Killary Fjord is a great stop in Connemara, with the sea food and Guinness in little pubs there.

Achill just north of Galway would be a great day out. Has to be one of the most spectacular places on the west coast.

If you get a chance and it works for you, give me a call on 0044 7875 299281 and me n the Mrs will come and find you

All the best

joe

Ok so today Christine and I done around 150 miles round the stunning Connemara loop and entering the lovely little village of Cong which has a 12 century Abbey....,was the exile of the last High King of Ireland (Rory 0' Connor)...and was the location of the 1951 film "The quiet man" starring John Wayne and Maureen 0'Hara...

Oh and along the Journey I spotted three vintage motorcycles and their owners..

Here are some more shots....

Thanks guys yes that beach at "Cashel" was really good and we would have liked to stay longer..but we stuck to our route for the day.

The building I am standing in the doorway of is "Power's old Thatched Pub" in the quaint village of "Oughterard"....

Glad you are enjoying the little travelog on the west coast of Ireland..

Enjoy yourselves guys and catch you later..

OK yesterday we spent the day exploring Connemara. ...today it was The Burren area in Co Clare and we especially wanted to see the 'Cliffs of Moher'....

There were some pretty little villages to see and plenty of 'watering holes' along the way.

Another great day....pity tomorrow we make the journey home..!

Look at the scale of those Cliffs by the people walking along the top edge..! (They were featured in the old movie "Ryan's Daughter")...

Oh and the thatched roof on the Merriman Hotel (where I got that roast beef dinner) is the largest Thatched roof in Europe...!
