Exclamation WSB: New Supersport 300 class - 2017

WSB: Supersport 300 class to be introduced for 2017

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/sport/...uced-for-2016/

"In order to establish a level playing field, four models have currently been homologated for use in the series including the Honda CBR500R, KTM’s RC390, Kawasaki’s Ninja 300 and Yamaha’s YZF-R3, with the machines with larger engine capacity subject to harsher rev limits. "

That's a pretty terribly uneven playing field.
So I assume it's not to replace the WSS, but another race class on its own ?

Correct. Dorna wants a 3 class structure like they have with MotoGP.
Superbike, WSS600 and WSS300. How long they keep Stock 1000 remains to be seen.

And who's going to race in the 600's, MV and Kawasaki ? With Honda not being allowed with no more production 600, will Suzuki do something ? Maybe a proper Triumph effort ?

Yamaha is coming back with a factory backed effort next year with their all new R6. MV will be there in one form or another. Kawasaki will for sure. Honda will continue for a least another year or two, they will continue to sell the current CBR6 in most countries outside Europe and they really only need to sell them in the US or Japan to meet homologation.

Good question.
The market trends/perception for 600's are alarming, inevitably affecting racing.
As for Triumph, sadly ...

I hope not! I've owned a 675 R and it is a fantastic package. It will be a loss for riders.

Sadly it seems the 600's are a dying breed. I think its just a matter of time until the 600 supersport class of bikes become extinct.
