looking for a quiet helmet

looking for a new helmet!

I am interested in the "Shoei GT-Air" because it fits best on my head.
I also looked at the "Schuberth C4",
but it doesn't really fit. Either too small or too big.

Does anyone have experience with the Shoei GT-Air and TV?

Gero

I just purchased the GT-Air, it is not the most quiet helmet I have had and def not the loudest. But living in Florida I wanted the most ventilation as possible.
I would suggest you read reviews on the helmets on Revzilla.com

I dont have a TV but I do have a Yamaha FJ-09 so our riding position is almost identical. I went ahead and attached my Sena 20s to it and purchased some better speakers from Iasus, I am very happy with this helmet especially since it is finally breaking in.

Gero, I have a GT Air. Great helmet, not the quietest but a great improvement, in many ways including noise, over the Arai Quantum I had previously. I always wear earplugs and am very happy with mine.

As to how it works with a particular bike, obviously you know what I ride, there are many other factors that influence this, not just the bike itself. Things like your height, your jacket, how well the neck roll and chin curtain fits, do your wear a neck tube? etc. can all significantly effect wind noise.

With my Puig touring screen in the high position, I'm 6 feet tall, I'm happy in terms of noise. Can hear much more though my BT headset at the same speed as I wouldn't have been able to with the std screen. Nice a stable, virtually no buffeting, too. This is my default screen position for long motorway rides (which I try to avoid if at all possible).

Hi Chas,
thanks for the review
at the end of this month I will have a test drive with this helmet... and then I will see ..
At Louis it is possible to have a few hours test drive!!

I had the Puig touring shield as well, found that this shield is much louder as the standard..

Yes, you're right, there are many factors that play a role.

Right there is your answer; ear plugs will mitigate the rest...

The most important factor for any helmet is fit. If the helmet does not fit you properly, then you will increase the probability of head damage in the event of a crash with head impact.

Every other consideration is secondary to the fitment.

That being said, Shuberth are the quietest helmets on the planet. They do not fit me so I never look at them. I love the style of Suomy helmets..but, again, they do not fit properly so I won't consider them.

For my oval noggin, it is only Arai Signet.

My advice...for everyone...WEAR EARPLUGS EVERY TIME YOU RIDE. No matter what helmet you wear.

Buy the helmet that fits, otherwise you are compromising your safety.

I was a long time Arai Quantum wearer for exactly that reason, three of those across three different versions. Always fancied a Shoei but all the ones I tried were too round for my oval shaped (plan view) head. The GT Air was a departure from this and was a good, comfortable and yet firm fit. I only tried one on to eliminate the possibility expecting it to be like the Shoei helmets I'd tried through the years. Like the Arai, all day comfortable but lighter, better venting and superior visor seal and mechanism.

Back in the 90s when I used to work in the trade for an MC clothing retailer we were told by the rep, so maybe marketing bo**ox but knowing them possibly true, that Arai made not only different shell sizes for each size but also different inner profiles to suit different markets. Asia, Europe and US weren't the same.

That is no BS, Bumpkin. Arai is one of the very few companies who make shells and liners in differing shapes and sizes so that each wearer can get a fit as close to perfect as possible. All but on of my halemts is Arai. I consider them to be the standard. I do have one NEXX helmet...just because it is sooooooo light.
