I wonder if it is REALLY the bike, or might there be internal personnel power plays similar to the Jeremy Burgess era when he was 'let go' by VR46. We know the bike started the season reasonably well, with some good rides by both Rossi and Vinales, BUT it still lacked legs against the Hondas and Dovi. Most of the development this year seems to be in the aero department; an area Yamaha still (apparently) struggles with. So this, added to their original shortcomings has seen them fall further behind.
Why I label 'personnel' as the possible reason is because astute management given free reign will generally arrest minor problems and have them rectified week by week and race by race. Most media I have seen (MCN UK primarily) shows both Rossi and Vinales continually requesting mods and being ignored in much the same way as had Lorenzo. I don't think we'll be seeing much improvement this year, but Rossi will, on his own merits, restore some credibility at both Assen and Philip Island. The off-season could see some startling management changes.
definitely something going on. Yesterday Rossi went out during qualifying with 4 minutes to go and rode around without trying to improve his position. Then today he improves 10 positions at the end. It is mind blowing that Yamaha would not give the greatest of all time the best available equipment.
Agree. Some might say that Dovi and Marquez were holding up the pace. Maybe so, but the Suzis were right with them and finished only as couple of seconds behind. Particularly impressed with Rins without any discredit to Iannone.
-Thoughts on Lorenzo's position vis-à-vis his crash and it being Marquez's fault? Seems a tad ridic, especially if you watch the replay from multiple angles.
-Innone put in an amazing performance!
-MV's Jordi Torres on his Moto GP (on a Duc!) debut? Must have been one stressful weekend for the guy!
Interesting article at MotoGP.com regarding Rossi and the Yamaha. Seems the Yamaha had and still has problems but despite those problems Rossi is able to make up for those problems with superior riding. I know some of you will not want to hear that. I would dare say if he was riding a Honda he would be winning the championship

Agree on all fronts. And that poses an interesting question: Had Ducati have devoted similar resources to Rossi as it recently has to Lorenzo, might Rossi have notched up a winning streak with Ducati?
Rossi is a proven winner for Honda. Maybe the Duc just wasnt the bike for him
