2010+ HID Install

Has anyone fitted a HID (xenon) kit successfully to a 2010+ Brute yet (920, 990, 1090)?

I note that forum sponsor Design Corse are selling a kit, but they say it won't work with newer CAN bikes like the BMW's.

Does the CAN on new Brutales extend to include the headlamp? I've got HIDs fitted to my VFR800 V-Tec and it makes one heck of a difference at night, plus it makes you so much more visible to other traffic, which is always a bonus.

Cheers,

Mike

Mv Agusta Corse makes a kit specific for the 2010+ bikes.

Of course I used the search function - I might be a noob here, but I'm very experienced on other auto forums.

All the searches throw up are some very good install threads but for 910/F4 models, none of which are CAN-equipped. I am an experienced auto electrician, specialising in VW-group cars. Many of the so-called CAN-bus models can easily take non-CAN HID solutions, so I might just have a play around and post the results back.

All I wanted to know is whether anyone had previously investigated what I'm trying to do. Searches suggested not, so I asked the question. Keep your stickpokes for when they're needed.

I have the MV Xenon kit...

I have not fitted it yet. I've powered it up just to see if it works. Both the ballast and the igniter live under the plastic nose piece that covers the dash. If you use the MV kit you'll have to drill another hole in the headlight housing to accommodate the Xenon cables. I have decided to tackle this in the Fall / Winter as I'd rather be riding right now. I'll attach the installation instructions later today so everyone can see what is required to install on a 2010+ model.

Really useful reply - just what I was looking for. I look forward to seeing your photos in time.

Cheers,

Thanks for the install docs - looks like the MV kit is just a standard slim ballast one, with mention made of a replacement high beam bulb (presumably a better colour match).

I'll do some experimentation over the next few weeks and post the results back.

Cheers,

Mike

Wink the Knurl

...and one other note....

@theKnurl has an immense amount of experience and is one of the most helpful guys on the forum (albeit slightly dry at times)....he doesn't need me sticking up for him....but he's only trying to be helpful.

New guys to the forum often ask a vast array of questions - without doing the research - and we don't know if you're new to forums or not....obviously we do now.
