TV - Modifying tail light assembly to include led indicators in?

Hi everyone,

the more I think to our Turismo Veloce rear indicators, the more I lean towards modifying the tail light assembly to include led indicators in it. Has someone already modified a led light assembly to include indicators, and if so, how did you proceed?

Thanks.

Hi Marc,

I think you will have a problem with that.. because:

EU regulations:

Distance of the rear turn signals to each other at least 180 mm (internal edge of turn signal glass to internal edge of turn signal glass), height from the roadway 350 - 1200 mm.

and the indicator has to be also conforms to EU directives...
the space at the taillight is 230mm, so where will u put the indicators ??

in 230 mm, you may put 25 mm + 180 mm + 25 mm if you want to absolutely respect the regulations. Further, height from roadway should not be a problem. And I'm question myself about respect of regulation and having indicators not working versus working but not respecting regulations... I know in Germany it may be a problem, but there is many place where noone cares... So if we can replace the light source for the branches of the X with ones that lights in either red either yellow depending the pole you apply the tension, we may have something nice, and giving an acceptable result, and with more reliability than the original ones...

I guess that will be the problem to make it "legal" ....

One of my friend living in Switzerland explained me the Swiss (french speaking ones) way: you mount the original exhaust, tail light and indicators once a year :-D

Seriously, If someone can build one legal with some minor mods of the format of the tail light if required, I may be customer for it.

By the way, @Gero HH, as you indicated the rules, is there more precisions on those?

I just wanted to make sure that my indicators fitted to the TVL are conform with the rules.. because in Germany the police knows a lot about this thinks... and they love it to pull u out and check..

Just had a look at louis website to poll homologated indicators: it doesn't seem there is rule for minimal length, so 25 mm maybe enough as long as there is enough power for the light

Yes, but they are all with a certificate for using... but at this tail light I guess you want to change something inside from red to yellow with some LED Strips or similar?? or do I get this all wrong now?

Not sure how yet. Need to find a used part available at decent price first, then I would open it to see how it is build inside, and then how to do something. Maybe it's a bit vague at this stage, but in my mind, that sounds like a plan.
zzaraxx and zzaraxx like this.
