Minor ding in TV subframe - best treatment

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, not really customising but it involves paint...

Have noticed that there seems to be a chip in the paint on the underside of my Turismo Veloce's sculptural cast aluminium subframe. It's less than 1/4 inch long and about an 1/8th wide. Only visible on close inspection. However, the paint has been compromised so want to effect a repair to stop corrosion and subsequent enlargement/spreading of the site.

I feel that if this has happened after only 500 miles it'll look like the surface of the moon in a couple of years time despite the hugger. With the ravages of the inevitable wet ride and exposure to the elements corrosion of the aluminium is bound to follow.

Can anyone recommend suitable products or maybe it would be better to visit a spot paint repair outfit followed by some VentureSheild to protect in the future?

Hi Chas, not sure the cast subframe is a painted finish, looks more like anodised to me. If it has chipped a good clean and sealing with a paint like hammerite will at least protect it from oxidising.

A layer of plastic film protection would help.

Thanks for the reply Jimbo, the maintenance booklet lists the rear subframe as having a paint code plus a matt clear-coat. Humbrol Enamel, genius idea. Would be good to have one of those automotive touch-up mini pots but Humbrol would probably be just as good, better with a fine brush. A slight colour mismatch shouldn't be an issue as it's very much underneath.

Hi Chas,
I'd noticed chips on my subframe so had some paint protection film applied to hopefully stop any more.

Thanks Neville, based on your previous thread I was looking at the BodyGuardUK website only yesterday with it in mind to go and get the bike fitted with VentureSheild to fairing and the seat rails.

Trouble is I can only manage about one day a week out of the office at the moment so finding the time is difficult. Family means weekends are usually out of the question for bike-time without a hard-won pass, I like to keep those for club rides if I can.

Need to certainly get this done ahead of going to Spain next month though. Did they measure your bike up for a full kit or just for the bits you had done? Will give them a call as DIY might be an option if they can provide a kit for the TV.

Just the bits I had done. Didn't take them too long to make the templates up though if you wanted to add some of the fairing panels.
