Chain Replacement

HI Guys,

My 2010 F4 has about 7500 miles on it and the service manual says to replace the chain. Does anyone recommend a specific one? Also says to replace the sprockets. Do you suggest getting a performance kit? I've seen a lot of these 520 conversion kits but what's the difference in performance?

Stick to standard for road use if you can. If that chain was well looked after, it will go a lot further, but that's not my call. Replace the lot with OEM, look after it, and you'll be fine for 15k I recon.

Alright Chuck - I've just got back from the lab, having tested your hypothesis that "In the real world these is no difference between a 525 and a 520 chain set".

My findings are that, having ridden for 15,000 kilometers overnight in the lab at work with both the 520 & 525 chain set, indeed there is a measurable significant difference.
And that difference is that, in the tested environment (linoleum floor with fluorescent lighting), the 520 chain looks prettier!

Now I'm off to bed.

Shouldn't you be mowing the lawn for Ed, Dave?
I see, from the picture, that you did put on pants...unnecessary, but a nice gesture!
(BTW, don't look down...one of your legs is missing!)

Thanks for the "Heads up" about the "missing leg" (good pun that).
I have contacted the lost & found department.
They said that they have 2 right legs and a pancreas but no left leg has been "Handed in" - I'm on fire here!

asofi, the 525 bit is the pitch, the length is measured in number of links, check Donsy's manual links in the sticky.

You cannot go wrong buying from any of the site sponsors, not sure where you are located in this little old world but here in the UK I use Design Corse because they are brill and UK based.

Don't be tempted to go cheap on the bay, it could end up costing you more than just money.

Providing the chain has been looked after it shouldn't need replacing at such a low mileage despite what the manual says, 15000 miles would be more like it.
