tachometer problem

my tach needle is not smooth.... if it revs around 6k or so on the move, the needle bounces around from like 5750-6250... it has this 500 "variance/bounce" at any rpm over 5k.

but when the bike is stopped, it doesn't do it if you rev the bike.

could it be a bad connection, or is it more likely the tach has gone bad? if I kind of push on the top of the dash while moving.... the "bounce" kind of goes away..

my speedo is about 5mph too fast as well, even though it has all the original gearing. I know a speedo healer will most likely correct it. but it seems odd to need a speedo healer for the factory set up.

I have an 07 brutale.

My guess would be that it's not the unit itself since it doesn't bounce when reved and not moving. Sounds more to me like a connection.

I just took it all apart.... the back all looked solid and clean.

I revved it a bit higher to 8k or so while stopped, and it was still making the bounce.... not as bad as when moving... but it was bouncing...
