Oil Amount on a Brutale 920

Just servicing my Brutale 920, 3 Liters came out, but 4 Liters went in??? .
Sorry if this topic been covered, but couldn't find anything concrete.

So whats the official oil capacity on a 920?

Manual for the 990R says to fill with 3Kg oil and then close cap, run engine, wait 10 minutes then check level and top off to Max line. Couldn't find a 920 manual.

Where is your level in the glass after running the bike and then checking the oil level after 10 minutes of rest?

It was above the top line, but that was on a stand and on uneven ground, will try again later.
But surely shouldn't be that much discrepancy, its a whole liter.

If the bike doesn't pour oils out, surely more oil would be better?

As Mitchy said 3.5 litres almost exactly with filter change. That'll see it just above the line with the bike level.

Too much oil is NOT a good thing for a variety of reasons.
Primarily increased crankcase pressures and the probability of oil venting into the air box and then making a mess of the filter, leaking out onto the engine/chassis, and going through the combustion chamber (carbon build up and damage to catalyzer if still installed).

Keep it at or slightly below the top line...as checked vertical on level ground after 10 minutes of rest.

Why, oh, why does this always come up?????
On every model, with most newbies.......THINK, IT HAS A SIGHT GLASS
THE BIKE MUST BE VERTICAL AND LEVEL, OR IT WON'T WORK
Put oil in the damn thing till it shows on the sight glass, put the filler plug back in and start it and let it run for a few seconds........you just filled the filter
Now top it off to the line.......simple isn't it?
I have no idea how much oil my bikes or cars need, whether they have a dip stick or sight glass.......I buy oil by the gallon

Over filling the crankcase doesn't increase crankcase pressure......ITS VENTED
Filling it until the crank can hit it, foams it and makes a giant mess

Yes, crankcases are vented.... and yet the pumping of the pistons along with compression blow-by past the rings causes a positive pressure (reasons for the venting). Since air is much more compressible than oil, and a higher oil level decreases the volume of air inside the crankcases, effective pressure is increased ....which is why the engine will push oil out the breather until it gets back to the proper level for balance.

Noel, you know all that. Why do you have to be so argumentative? And, yes, crankshaft frothing up the oil is another point....but most modern engines carry the oil so low that the crank wheels rarely come into contact with the sump oil.
