Brutale 1078 full loss of Electrics

Overtaking at High Speed today and full loss of electrics, dash & engine

pulled in clutch and cruised to a safe place to stop.

Removed seats and visual check of electrics, all seemed fine. Disconnected starter solenoid & checked starter solenoid fuses, the spare one was fine
the main 40 amp one was blown.

replaced blown fuse and with ignition key in OFF position, power came back to the dash.

Started bike and rode home.

parked up and turned OFF ignition, engine kept running and dash still lit up.

Stopped engine using kill switch

Dash still lit up

Had to Disconnect starter solenoid to switch off power.

All lights, indicators etc work when engine is running.

any pointers guys? anyone had this before?

Presently looking for an F4 to join collection, ideally a F4 1078

To me this sounds like a failure of the SPU...where the fuses live...

What was the last maintenance done to the bike prior to failure?

It had a full service done 2 months ago and a Scorpion/Datatool tracker fitted,

also heated grips.

bike has done 1200 miles since then and no problem until this afternoon
With the SPU failure would the bike still run? but cause spurious faults such as power on when ignition in off position etc

Well, there are well documented problems with datatool devices and heated grips add extra load to the system.

Either way, I'd be looking at the SPU.

Removed tank and checked all wiring & loom, connected all back up, replaced fuses and everything was back to normal.

Ignition working again, dash - all as new, fault seems to have fixed.

I suspect as silentservice has suggested the SPU is on the way out, and all is back as "appears normal" due to being sat for a day and cooled down. Next dry day I will take out again for a good run and see what happens at high temp running, once the SPU heats up again, possibly simillar problem will occur.

Is there a way to test the SPU; diagnostics? or is it a matter of accepting and changing out

Fault found and rectified; so glad I dug deeper rather than replace the SPU as I would have been 400 out of pocket, sometimes its best to take a slower more detailed look and inspection.

Bike back up and running.

Although I thought I fully checked the wiring loom, I went over this once again and found it had been rubbing on right hand side of bike frame and a couple of wires earthing on frame, patched everything back up and all is good.
