Fuel pump or what?

Hello MV people

I took a ride and suddenly the bike stalled to a complete halt.
I tried starting the engine again but the fuel pump didn't seem to build the pressure up.
Checked the fuses and seemed ok.
Put the bike on road assistance truck and got home.

I took the tank apart and found that the fuel line from pump to filter was torn.

I connected the pump to the bike loom and didn't worked at all when I turned the ignition on.

I took the pump off the housing and connected it directly to a battery and it started buzzing.

Is this normal?

Or is the pump malfunctioning?

Sounds very much like you need a new pump.

So to clear things up

The split line is irrelevant to the pump's action?

Can I get away just by replacing the in-tank lines or am I a victim of a very rare double failure?

Does the fuel system incorporate a fuel pressure sensor? And where is it located ?

Thanks

First things first...that line does not appear to be the correct J30R10 immersible line. It should have a fabric reinforcement layered in and J30R10 stamped on the line.

As for the fuel pump: it should run for 3 seconds when attached to the loom and at KEY ON. IF it simply buzzes when 12 vdc is directly applied, then it is time for a new pump.

There is no pressure switch in the fuel system. There is a 3 atm pressure regulator in the return line at the pump plate.

I don't think it's the pump if the pump works connected directly to the battery. Take a multimeter and check if there is ground and 12v power on the 2 wires going to the pump when you turn the key to the ON position. Does this bike have a fuel pump relay?

He said, in the initial post, that the pump just buzzes when hooked to a battery. This is a sign of a frozen pump.

As for a fuel pump relay...yes, but that is not what it is called.

But if the pump buzzes it should buzz even when its installed in the bike, that's why I said to test if there is power to it on the pump harness.

And by buzzing I though he just he meant its buzzing because its spinning dry but you're right he should be able to hear a difference between it buzzing because its stuck or buzzing because its spinning
