Speedo... wild fluctuations

I did a search but didn't find anything helpful. After riding for about a half hour I stopped for gas and when I returned to the road the speed indication went crazy. It began rapidly changing up and down from one reading to another 40/135/63/145/78 with no discernable pattern. After a few miles it returned to normal readings. No I didn't spill gas, and no it wasn't raining nor did I ride thru any puddles. I cleaned the speed sensor and the back of the disc where it passes the sensor. Looked for the connector where the sensor wire plugs into a harness to check the connection and for any moisture from washing the bike, but could not see or locate it. looks like it is tucked behind the right side frame rail. Haven't had a chance to ride it as it has been raining all week here. Has anyone seen this before or any clues would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bill 2012 F4 1000R

That does indicate a dirty or bad connection.

Did you pull and clean the main connector on the back of the dash?

Thanks, It does act like a dirty or faulty connection, at least that's my first area to look into. I'll check the gang plug at the dash as well. Thanks for the tip!
Any Idea where the first connector between the sensor and the rest of the harness is located?

Download your manual here: Team Double 3 Racing | MV Agusta

It will show you what you need.

The speed sensor for the dash is located at the rear wheel brake holder. The first connection is a white two-pin affair, probably on the right side of the bike...follow the wire.
