Indicator fast flashing

So to my first issue of ownership...

2011 F4RR

All indicators work, right blinks at normal speed, left blinks fast as if one has gone out but they all work, yesterday it worked fine a couple of times, it works normal at random times which would suggest to me maybe a ground somewhere is loose or something?

I sorted this problem on my fireblade with using resistors etc but I’m unsure of the layout of this bike so wondering if there are a couple of known areas to check first?

Thanks
Rob

Before starting any complicated theories ...it maybe...good to check&change both left side bulbs, maybe one has a wrong wattage or is faulty.

Put in the correct bulbs!

Had anything been changed prior to the issue arising?

Thanks for the replies,
Nothing has been changed, just intermittent.

So what I’ve tried...

If I swap the rear connections so that when I indicate right the front right comes on and the rear left,

If I indicate left the front left comes on and rear right, having them this way both sides flash perfect.

Reverse them back and the left side is flashing fast again, right side still normal,

Well, I would probably disconnect every connection that is available and clean the connectors. That includes the bulb housings. I would also look for some minor indication of wire insulation breakdown as low resistance is a cause of fast flashing.

I believe there have been problems with wire abrasion near the headstock.

Cheers for that, I’m going to pull the bike out to wash it and take it apart, I’ll update with any findings,

It seems like adding a resistor to the rear bulb would fix the problem but I know it’s just masking the main one

If you didn't change bulbs, or anything else, then you need to find the culprit or you are asking for trouble down the line.

Intermittency Relay - Turn Signal Flasher

Here is where your flasher relay lives, if the 2011 is the same as the 2010:

Brilliant that’s very helpful, all wires look ok so far, got busy and needed to do some work so will have a better look tomorrow, the hazard lights work fine also, unsure if they would blink any faster, I’ll get at that relay and give it a clean

Just to update tho, bike has been locked away for the last while, busy with work til now so decided to go for a spin, fitted a new smoked tail light with integrated signals so I can do away with the ones beside the reg plate.

Turns out the intermittent fast blinking was down to the indicator being a bit faulty in the rear, if it blinks fast, give the indicator a few taps and it would go back to normal, tap again and it would go fast, strange. Anyway it’s completely fixed with the new tail light

fingertight and fingertight like this.
