Stiff Throttle

Coming from a Panigale I've noticed the throttle is pretty stiff. While it's generally not a problem, it does make it hard to make small mid corner adjustments and if I'm commuting more than 30 minutes on the freeway my hand does tend to get tired. I've search around and found the following:

But they both reference the 1st gen F4. Would the same mod work on the 2nd gen? Has anyone tried it?

Hi

Your F4RR will have the fly by wire throttle and given it is a 2015 model it most likely has the later throttle with the stiffer return spring. I found a noticeable difference in spring tension when I fitted a later throttle to my 2013 bike but I got used to it quite quickly. The return spring is inside the throttle assembly, see the picture below, so the fixes you refer to above won't help you.

If you could find an old version of the throttle you may be able to fit the spring to your throttle. I did think about experimenting with that but as I said the heavier spring doesn't bother me any more.

So in theory if I ordered a separate OEM turn throttle spring, I could take that spring to hardware distributors and see if they can source another spring of similar dimensions, but less tension.

The throttle is only available as a complete unit (according to the Evolutionbike website) but you could probably make a spring with less tension, or find an enthusiastic spring-maker. The tension on the spring is not huge and the throttle only turns through about 45 degrees so probably not that difficult. Finding a discarded early version throttle might be an easier option though. What sort of spring does the Panigale use?

One end of the spring locates in a hole (cant be seen in the photo) in the smaller white plastic part of the throttle that is turned by the twist-grip. It might be possible to drill another hole in a position that put less preload on the spring. The other end of the spring is located in the aluminum body of the throttle.

No idea what spring setup the Panigale uses. I never opened it enough to find out. I may just pick up a spare full unit to play around with so I don't destroy my stock one and be up the river without a paddle.

It can be done!

The earlier softer spring can be installed in the later throttle in place of the stiffer spring. And vice-versa. The stiffer spring has more coils but smaller gauge wire but overall they are the same size.
