2011 Brutale 1090RR

Hi,

Just been told by the mechanic that the bike needs a new Starter Motor (8000B2549). The bike doesn't really have problems starting when it's cold but if I take it for a ride and stop the engine, it doesn't want to start up again and the only way is using jumper cables. It seemed to me that the battery was not recharging and therefore doesn't have enough juice after a ride but since i'm far from being savvy, I would greatly appreciate any advice. If I do need to replace the Starter Motor, the dealer here is saying it will take at least 1 month which I know will easily turn into 2 because having stuff imported into Russia is a serious headache.

I will actually be in the USA next week and was wondering if anyone knows where I could possibly order it and if there is a chance I could get it by June 20th so I can take it back myself.

Quite pissed off; I just got the bike 1 week ago and can't even ride it because if it does happen to stop at a red light, i'll get run over...I think some of you have seen Russian Dashcam footage and if interested, here is one of a car hitting me and driving off https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ymxmn6agj...Crash.mp4?dl=0

Thanks in advance for your input.

Does the dash and trip meter reset when you do the hot start? If so, tell your mechanic to have a look at the 4 pin plug on top of the starter solenoid. They are prone to loosening up over time.

I doubt it is the starting motor.

As others have said, check the starting solenoid connections for corrosion and good mechanical connection.

If your dash resets during the starting process, then your battery and its connections are also suspect.

Thanks so much for the responses and the dash does indeed reset. I hate to ask but since the mechanic did not know about this, I am thinking of going to someone else so is there anyway you can send me a screenshot of the connector I should check?

Much appreciated!

I had very similar symptoms on my 2011 Brutale as well when the engine was warm/hot. If you don't find any issues with the fuse or starter solenoid then I would look into replacing the battery cables. See this thread for more info:

The new cables solved my starting issues.

Thanks all; so according to what I'm reading, I should try everything else before changing the starter...the starter is quite expensive so I'm hoping addressing evyething you pointed out will fix the problem.

Great advice and thanks again.

Just ordered the cables because I might as well change what will eventually cause problems...much appreciate the suggestion!

Hrmmm, my new to me 2013 Brutale 1090 has the same issues. I was initially thinking the battery was bad, but I'll have to look at these things first. Great timing on this post!
