Backfire issues

I have an 05 F4 1000S, which the dealer replaced a relay on the lower left side. I shorted the battery like a fool and it blew the relay diode and 25 amp fuse. It was replaced with a relay from a newer model F4 and since then when I close the throttle on decel and open it , it then explodes blue flame out the pipes!! It doesn't happen below 4000 rpm though. Seems fuel is loading up in the exhaust somehow. I';m wondering if the new relay isn't compatible because its from a newer model. Maybe not syncing with the ECU or the EBS module. Any thoughts out there? Thanks

They never indicated a part number , just relay, on the receipt. On the left side, between the trellis frame work, there is a bracket screwed to the frame with 3 relays clipped onto it. Two square ones and a round one in the center that looks like a turn signal flasher can. The largest one to the rear of the bike is the replacement. It has a red 25 amp fuse plugged into the right rear side of the relay. Looks a little different then the original but does fit the bracket just right.

Have you changed anything else since you last used the bike ?

Exhaust filter ? Any service done since ?

If it accelerates ok then I doubt it is the ecu. There are only 2 injector drivers.

Poss as Dons says, the ebs relay - are you able to test it with a meter ?

If it died it would either add fuel to cyl3 all the time or not at all.

Nothing else has been a problem since getting it back from the dealer. She starts right up, runs like a top. Do you mean just a particular section of the ECU may be toast? I'm not all that saavy on those, seems if it was bad, I'd have more problems then that!!

Nothing was done since the dealer last laid hands on it. A year ago I had an issue with loss of power. I figured out the EBS box was getting WAAY to hot up close to the headers. It has a long lead on it so I moved it back along the left side of the frame close to an opening in the fairing and Problem solved. Been fine ever since with that unit. Is that somehow connected electronically that the short could have altered it?

You have "AfterFire".... Not backfire.....unburned gas in the exhaust ...I suspect you have an EBS relay problem. That's likely the one they replaced.....

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

Doubt they swapped out the ebs as he said they changed it from a newer model.

There was only the ebs relay on the 1000S, nothing else had them.

More likely the starter relay but that wouldn't cause a problem.

Anyhow, it's not unheard of for a bang in the exhaust on the 1000S with modified exhaust or fueling out - lean condition....

still could be the EBS they switched out. Someone send him a relay and let him change it. As Ed said, it is unburned fuel not back firing
