Question Fuel level light problem

Few months ago, my fuel level light stopped working. My mechanic had replaced only the sensor but after that the light remained on all the time. He told me that I have a problem on ECU or panel circuitry, and made a "bypass" using another light directly. The arrangement works, but I would like to know if anyone here had same trouble.
I am not shure if sensor replace have same electrical specifications (wet/dry resistance), and consequences of that. The fuel level sensor with body costs 143 euros, but he had replaced only the "head" of it.

Anyone could tell me about possible solutions and verifications that I can do to make shure the problem is not the sensor ou of manufacturer specs?

Thanks in advance (and sorry for my bad English)
