Be gentle with me....

Morning Everyone (it's morning here in the UK anyway).

Just registered, and perusing the forum before doing so seems like I'm most on here in having a mid life crisis, and bought a spangly new MV Augusta.

Treated myself to the F3 800 RC, last years colours as I prefer them.

Trying to run it in but weather not been good last week - unfortunately I'm a fair weather rider nowadays as had enough of getting wet in my younger days.

Very pleased with the bike - In the few hundred miles I've done on it, I have found it vibrates a bit more than the Jap 4's that I'm used to, and I need to learn to be more forceful with the gearlever and quickshifter, as discovering quite a few false neutrals inbetween the upper gears (and no ability for race shift on standard set-up). Apart from that, it's (for me) a cracking little bike. It certainly turns heads though with it's good looks. I've always liked the F4's from when they first came out - in 750cc trim and then the 1000's, but the F3 caught my eye a few years back.

Plan to do some European touring and trackdays on it - I rarely ride on the roads here as for me they're too crowded, despite being in rural mid Wales.

Expect lots of daft questions about setting up my bike in the near future, it's never going to be a 1000 beater in a straight line, but when having a go on one at Cartagena last year what impressed me most was the brakes and handling, so will want to fine tune those areas (and also having club raced a 250 stroker in the mid 90's for a decade, I understand the importance of getting a bike to go round corners than outright grunt - but there is something to be said for monster power in a machine....).

Welcome and great bike, would love a F3RC.

BTW, I see one or two F3s at the Sepang trackdays I attend and they are certainly not embarrassed by the 1 litre bikes, in many aspects they are just as quick.

Hi Mike, don't under estimate how much grunt you have coming out of corners, I've beaten many 200bhp 1000s down the straights because of the ferocious way the engine picks up power.

I'm racing with NG at pembrey 12,13 & 14 July, your welcome to pop over and discuss track settings if you want and see a bit of track action. (Also 250GP bikes racing)

I'm presuming you borrowed shimmy's bike at Cartagena?

I have also toured on the F3 in 2014.

Hi Dudman,

Yes dude - Shimmy's F3 at Cartagena.....I'm used to the grunt of a 1000 so found it a little lacking top end and from 4th gear onwards, but that's to be expected. I usually do the fast tracks (Spa, Nurburgring, Le Mans, Portimao...etc…) so know I will struggle on the straights against the litre bikes, at Cartagena I lapped the same times as my bike on Shimmy's one and that was only one 20 minute session so I know they are impressive - as soon as I came out of the pits I slammed on where I normally do and came to a stop in half the time, so opened the throttle to pick up speed for the first corner and the thing took off - I thought Crist, I'm going to bin it on the first corner here as I 50 penced it all the way round. Then I was confusing the bike with the auto blip on the downshift by doing it myself also (old habits), plus gearing was different to my bike so in wrong gear most of the time. Shimmy said just pin it out of the corners and trust the electronics but I couldn't (or they didn't kick in as far as I'm aware). My bike doesn't have any electronics on it as it's a 2007 model, and I'm old school with the throttle.

Even so, I was so impressed with the little bike in how it turned and stopped which is why I have now bought one. I still have the 1000 for the faster tracks, but looking forward to touring and Nurburgring on this bike. It's too nice to throw into the kitty litter for a few years....despite it belonging on track.

I'll put the dates in my diary for Pembry, hopefully see you there. I'll be getting the sweaty palms then as still now want to be back on the grid waiting for the red lights to go out. Can't beat the smell of Castrol R....

Thanks All.

Yes my other mid-life crisis a few years ago - a Caterham. It's a 1998 model with the Rover VVC engine with 165bhp - not the fastest one but nippy enough. One previous owner from new and factory built. If I want speed then I go for 2 wheels....I'm no car driver and while I don't ride on the road (I keep them road legal for the Nurburgring trips), it's the Caterham that is fun around the Welsh twists.

All my toys have been on the 'Ring at some point, but I go several times a year now usually with the bike each time. MV will be there in August....
