Helping an MV Riding Mate, HELP NEEDED PLEASE

I need to know if the 2007 F4 1000 motor will physically fit into a 2008 F4 312 Model along with any possible issues etc? The 2007 doner motor is a straight F4 and the 2008 is the 312? The 2007 has Motor, Computer and Wiring loom and has the F4,F5 stamped casing supposedly the same fit without as high spec internals. The 2007 motor will be using the 2008 312 throttle bodies and the intention was to run a power commander 5 and dyno tune for correct fuel and air tuning. This post is on behalf of a good friend who doesn't do computers but has done some research and thinks the 07 doner should suffice just lacking the 312 power etc.

Any help or advice/thoughts would be welcome, Thanks all

The 2007 1000 motor will be a direct swap. The electronics are the same. The ECU tuning is different as we found out during this event: http://www.mvagusta.net/forum/21-cus...-east-usa.html

You have the ECU from the 1000 so you will be fine.

I would recommend against the piggyback PC5 and just have the ECU directly tuned.

Where are you and your friend on this Big Blue Marble? There may be local help.

Welcome

Thanks and that's great to hear, We're in New Zealand. The PCV was because of limited MV tuning options in NZ, I spoke to a leading Dyno expert here in NZ I have dealt with myself and he said flashing an MV ECU needed a tool or something he didn't have. He has done 70,000+ dynos and is very knowledgeable which leaves me unsure as to how common it is here I guess.
If the 2007 F4 is the same motor and electronics other than tuning what does the 312 model actually offer beyond the 2007 base model? I was led to believe the 312 was higher spec mechanically as opposed to ECU tuning?
My friend will be using the 2007 ECU from install but mentioned swapping it with the 312 ECU to see its effects? Basically what makes a 312R different from the base F4? Also will the 312 throttle bodies work ok with the 2007 motor, ECU and wiring loom? The replacement was due to the conrod wanting to overtake the front wheel via a fist size hole in front of the head which I hear is well know and (luck of the draw 1/10) in MVs.
Appreciate the feedback also guys/gals.

Guess i'll stop hassling him to sell it and get a Crossplain R1 like myself lol.

The motors are the same. MV tweaked a few more ponies out of the 312 engine with a few small changes inside the engine. Everything will swap over.

let's clarify that a bit more.....the engine cases and top end castings are the same (bolts right in) What's inside is different in certain areas. Throttle bodies are another difference that lends to the increase in power.
You should go look at the original sales literature and detailed engine spec sheets to discover what is different. like every brand, changes are made as product is developed. Even the R1's have had changes (some subtle, some not) in their engines every year.

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

The difference in valves and cam profile for the 312R (Titanium Valves) makes the tuning different. There are also subtle differences between the 1000R and the 1000S tuning. We did tune a bunch of different 998 (1000) motors and we found the state of tune from the 1000, to the 1000R to the 312R lead to rough running if the wrong tune was used.

Where are you in NZ? I have a good friend in Palmy that can lead you down the right path...Look up The Castle...he has a Tamburini and a CC "right in the pool room".

One possibility is to send your ECu here and I can have Rob flash it to the right tune.
