if *you* were going to ride from vegas to monterey...

which way would you go?

I'm thinking, from Bakersfield, take the 58 out to either the 101N or the 1 and go up the coast.

If we take the 101N, I think that in Greenfield we'd head west and pick up Carmel Valley Rd. I drove that road two years ago in an rv and it sucked, but all I could think was how great it'd be on two wheels.

On the same rv trip I drove part of the 1, maybe down as far as Big Sur and it was beautiful. How do you think it'd be all the way up from the 58?

Also, if anyone has any other route suggestions/variations, I'd love to hear them.

much thanks,
Chris

I'd probably go up 1 myself, but I'm a sucker for a nice view and because I've got a Brute, I hate traffic like I hate getting typhoid.

Time is a delusion. Lunchtime doubly so.

However, Interlake road, after you pass through Paso Robles, seems like a good time.

I'd know exactly how fast my bike would go flat out for 7 miles or so. I'll see you there. I'll have dog ears flapping in the wind. Ride safe.

Personality is what you show of yourself daily.

Character is what comes out under adversity. (Think about that)

I would go up via highway 1, at the least the sea breeze will keep you cool in your summer time - the view is not bad as well. 101 seems to carry more trucks and was stinking hot last time I use 101.

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast!!
