Thinking back to Triumph's total failure with producing a 600 cc I-4 to compete with the Japanese, and their "triumph" (pardon the pun) with the 3 cylinder 675, I would be VERY surprised if MV waded into those (4 cyl 600) waters.

The triple could be developed alongside a liter-sized 4 with a lot less expense.
