So whether I m competent or not it looks as though MV ownership means I will be doing some maintenance. Daunting but this site and the manuals should help.
So far I have managed to strip the thread on two bolts- this will be sorted shortly but clearly I need to use the torque settings MV specifies in the manual.
My question is what make? I m guessing they are not all made equal. Any help gratefully received before I shred any more nuts

You will need a couple of torque wrenches of different sizes. One for smaller fasteners (as low as 5 Nm) on the engine and one for larger fasteners on the chassis and drive train...the highest being the rear axle nut.!!

I recommend Snap-On if you can afford it, but for the small amount of use you will have over the years a less costly quality tool brand would be fine....just don't get a cheapo Harbor Freight China special.

I have a "Husky" brand big wrench for the rear axle (sold at Lowe's in the USA, a home improvement type store), and a couple of Snap-Ons for smaller stuff.

Dont buy cheap as Ed mentioned, I tried that for the rear wheel nut. 100-225nm torque wrench for 20-30 euros.
Arrived.. utter sh!t. Coudnt even turn to max spec normal. So returned spend my money on Proxxon torque wrenches. Easy to use, actually turns to max spec and feels strong and heavy.

Proxxon mc30 6-30nm
Proxxon mc100 20-100nm
Proxxon mc200 40-200nm Rear wheel only.

All wrenches with certificate, and lots of positive reviews.

Did front brakes on my dads scooter. 30nm, nice and obvious click. Very good.

Those look nice.... Don't think they are sold here in the USA. At least I didn't find any in my Google search.

Build and tested in Germany.
Specsheet provided with tollerance.

Also they can click left way. That sure helps alot when tightening the rear wheel nut

I also use two: a 5 - 24 and a 20 to 100Nm.

When I checked Amazon all the sellers were in Italy and Germany... or was that eBay. Anyway, the link you posted is way too much money. Found them for prices closer to the European prices when I started searching harder using the wrench numbers provided by Black_Gold_Saw.

Take note of the areas that require loctite or anti seize compound.

Excellent point, given that I fell victim to this earlier in the year with my tail pipe fixings having removed themselves from beneath the seat unit.
