Diagnostic software

Hello everyone! It's been a while but my dad's 910R, bro's 989R and my 1078RR are still doing great! We all absolutely love our bikes 😄 For now, since there is room for improvement i am going to install a race ecu and PCV on my 1078RR. From what i've read you should reset the tps. I used to have the 16m software, but it seems to be deleted from my laptop and it isn't available anymore as you know. I've read something about VDST. So what to do? Is the software somewhere to be found or can someone send it? Or is it not neccessary to reset the tps value?

Thanks in advance!!
Kjeld

You need the VDST system to set the TPS, and YES....it is an important item.

The 16M software only works on that older ECM. Your 5SM requires a different software and communication cable.

Since you don't have your location shown in your profile, we have no idea where in the world you are. I have the diagnostic tools you need and could loan them to you....if you were close by.

Where on this planet do you reside? Someone here in our global family may be able to help you.

Just as an aside, the PCV is a piggy back on the injectors that modifies only injector duration. You can't adjust ignition timing or anything else. You need a Microtec ECU to really tune your bike....OR have a shop that can reflash your 5SM. Silentservice (Chuck) knows a guy in the USA that can do that. There may be one near you.

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

I'm going to take wild guess and say Netherlands (given his name and forum user name)

Yeah....it's just a jab at yet another anonymous location. Who knows, there may be someone in the same city who could help.... but we don't know where that might be.

Haha, yes I'm from the netherlands, near amsterdam. I have the tools and i got a cd with software for most mv's, some ducati's and guzzi's but i thought there was no tps reset function. So it would just be the software i need.

I can get the pcv and the racing ecu for €550,- then have it on the dyno. The seller had 160 rwhp with this setup, gull exhaust etc.

Also read good stories about the pcv with racing ecu but it seems you are not positive about it?

The issue with the 5SM ECU cannot be fixed with a PCV. What needs to be fixed is ignition timing. You will figure this out in time. TPS has to e reset with the VDST diagnostic kit.

For your neck of the woods, and please flesh out your profile with a general location and your signature with your bike year and model, you would be best served by a Microtec ECU.

What is the ignition timing problem then...?
I'm already feeling like i'm keeping the bije the way it is as else it'll get too expensive i think. I thought that fuelling was the biggest problem with these bikes

Fueling is a three dimensional problem: Air, Fuel and Ignition Timing. The timing of the bike is adjusted for emissions results, not for optimum performance or engine cooling. @theknurl can explain it better, but when the timing is corrected, the engine will run cooler.

If you have the CD that came with the communication cable then you should see TPS reset as one of the functions when you plug it in. Have you tried that yet with your existing ECM?

The software and communication cable for the Ducatis, Guzzis and MVs using the 1.6M ECU is different from the software and cable for the 5SM.

And the cable and software for the newer bikes suing the Eldor ECU is different yet again.
