Ethanol Free 89 octane vs. 10% Ethanol

I have a 2014 Brutale 800 with one of the "grey stamp" gas tanks.

I just moved to Florida from Ca. and now can buy ethanol free gas.

My dilemma, the ethanol free is only 89 octane. Should octane rating override ethanol content or should I stick with ethanol free?

lurking here, i have a ducati panigale 899, it's supposed to use minimum 90 octane, i've been using 89 octane ethanol free for 7000 miles, no issues, not sure what the 800's octane requirements are. hth

Thanks, that what I was wondering. I think the 800 is supposed to have 91 octane.

You want to use the lowest octane that prevents pre-ignition (knocking).

Going down an octane rating doesn't hurt until knocking occurs.

Going up an octane rating will waste your money and possibly carbon up valves and other things in the ignition train as the fuel may not burn completely.

What he said....I've been using 89 non-ethanol for years. Not a problem.

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

There's a station by me that has 90 octane non-ethanol, and I use it exclusively. Haven't had any issues.

Where abouts in Florida did you end up?

Near Clearwater. Gonna miss my dealer in California (Livermore) and really miss the nice roads.
