1950's 175cc frames

This may be a silly question but what exactly are the differences between the frames from the 1950's 175cc series of MV Agusta bikes? In all the pictures I have seen I struggle to see any difference.

There aren't many variations in the 1950's models- some had a flat battery tray and others had a lip, I've read that some models didn't have toolboxes but haven't seen a period photo of one- the Squalo was completely different.

Thanks Rick, good to know. So really the only real way of telling one model's frame form another is through the serial number?

1953-56
Flat large battery tray.
Lusso and Sport got toolboxes.
Pre-production Sports displayed at shows and in period magazines did not have toolboxes or Sport motors.
I seem to recall the Sport tank and saddle mounts are different from the others.

1957-1961
Smaller cupped battery tray.
Every model had toolboxes.
My 1957 Sport tank and saddle mounts are different from my 1954 Sport (Disco).

Hi,

please, can you describe the differences between the tank an saddle mountings of the two types of 175 frames?

Thanks!

Any idea if frame numbers where continuous independent of the model of the bike. Or did they create a separate range of numbers for every model type?
