350 S Ipotesi from the swiss alps

Hello there,

I am a new owner of a MV Agusta 350S ipotesi from 1977.

When i took it from the garage to my home i have had a loss of power and then i stopped and saw a oil leak.
so i asked the road side assistance to take it to my mechanic.

also i saw an issue arround the 6000 RPM the acceleration was not linear anymore.
Any ideas?

Best regards
Maxime

When was the last time she was ridden prior to this? Could be a large number of things from dragging brakes (old brake fluid caused malfunction in calipers or master cylinder), Carburetor plugged passages from old gas, Ignition timing.....

Where was the oil leak? I hope your mechanic appreciates he is working on a special bike.

I used to be fast....now I just dream about it.

Hello,

thank you for the answer, the bike was not ridden for months.

the oil leak is at the bottom left of the engine in front of the kicker.
The garage i bought it from in zurich did a really poor job on it.

Best regards
Maxime.

PS i am looking for the caoutchouc cover for the lock, and also did anyone bought the 1600 euros frairing from magni? is it good? or better buy the Felotti one in aluminium? i have tried to send magni emails but he doesn't answer them.

and last does anyone know where to get this fairing holder? (picture)

Thank you for answering my newbie questions.

Hello MG,

Welcome and congratulations on your beautiful machine.

My whole MV addiction started with an Ipotesi around1994🙂 perhaps it's better if I described it as a disease 😂.

Did the bike died completely or just some power? Does it still run?

The oil from the left side might nothing major it is where the clutch basket is housed....does the clutch work ok? Could merely be a tired oil gasket but it could also be much we need more information about the acceleration not being linear.

Cheers
Rob

the acceleration was linear until 5000 6000 RPM and then really difficult to go above 120km/h 135km/h was the real max and difficult to attain, then acceleration stopped the engine still revved but there was no transmission of those revs to the wheels.

I bought a gasket kit on Ebay and also the caoutchouc part around the speedometer and tachymeter.

OK, So engine run normally but no power delivery to the wheel....Sounds like the clutch is not engaging.
That should be easy to repair (if parts are readily available).........

So, oil leak in clutch cover area, and slipping clutch. Sounds like you should have this sorted soon, you know where to look for both concerns!!

Higher revs and not accelerating accordingly? Certainly sounds like a slipping clutch to me.

There is an adjustment screw on the left hand side might be worth a fiddle....back off the locking nut under cover which has a litle screw out section and see if there's any change.

You need to eliminate one thing at a time to source a problem. Good luck.
