Exclamation warning passenger seat!

as it turns out locking the passenger seat latch by smacking my fist on the seat has its downside.....

it bends the bracket on the bottom of the seat......and the latch SEEMS locked.....

a bump in the road will unlatch it.....

ask me how I know.....

happened this afternoon, got to the gas station, no rear seat, hasn't been off for 2 days

so if the latch is getting hard to work......check the bracket for bending

I went back and found it .....perfect excuse to get new seat covers

I have a habit of hitting mine back into place, but having heard tales of others flying off I always also try and pull it back off again, apart from once when you can guess what happened....

The latch bit does apppear to be relatively flimsy with no design to allow the pin to slide it out of the way other than the pins taper. I'd imagine after smacking it in a number of times it would eventually chafe the pin enough for it to start catching on the latch?

Are you going to repair the existing one Noel or just go for a new latch? It would be interesting to see if there was a better way to setup the latch system to better guide the pin in.

I close mine gently and as suggested above, always check to make sure it's clicked in to place. Be nice to your Bruite, she brings you too much pleasure to pick on her.

I close mine this way:
1. Put the seat on so that it is resting on the lock.
2. Turn the key enough that the seat slips down partly into the lock.
3. Firmly press down on the seat until I hear a "click".

Works like a charm, and no violent motions involved - plus when I hear the little "click" I know it is in.

Wink

the fix;

relieve the back side of the notch in the pin, on the upper side.....

look at a hood latch on a car

seat latch was a bad design......overweight pillion would bend it too

I bought it used and it wouldn't latch unless I gave it a little smack at 4,000mi

I check it every time I get on the bike, and some times at traffic lights too

now I need one of Ade's masterpieces

Silver linings

One big plus to the one piece seat. While I'm on the bike, so is the seat
