Prior to 2013, RR model had hand made chromoly tig welded frame, more horsepower due to 49mm throttle bodies with high lift cams and shorter inlet manifolds, this increases rev limit by 600 rpm, marchesini wheels, better front brakes, steering damper, better rear shock and a slipper clutch. 2013RR went back mig welded steel frame.

So does this make a 2012 1090RR a desirable unit due to better frame?

Yes and no. The TIG welded frame is more aesthetically pleasing. TIG is also a stronger weld than MIG. However, many many bike frames have been welded using the MIG. And those MIG welded frames work just fine for street, race or whatever the purpose. I personally like the MIG welded frame for a naked bike, because the frame is on display.
